The official first week high school football season is underway. Hazard opens the season up on the road at Montgomery County in the REC Bowl. Hazard opens up its second season under Coach Matt Chandler. Hazard finished the 2024 season 8-5 losing in the 3rd round to State Runner-up Raceland. Hazard in year two is hoping to host a regional championship game under Coach Chandler. Montgomery County hopes to have its 2025 season on the plus side of things. They ended the 2024 season 5-5, with an overtime loss to North Laurel 20-17.  These two teams met earlier in the Summer at EKU during the 7 on 7 passing tournament. The teams were asked to leave after some altercations and punches thrown so this game will most definitely have some high animosity.

The real question is Who can put those emotions aside and get the win in this matchup? Does Hazard win its first REC Bowl? Does Montgomery County send Hazard back with a loss?

Montgomery County returns its quarterback who threw for over 1,400 yards and 14 touchdowns. They return just over 1,200 yards on the ground, plus its top two rushers from last season who account for over 1,000 of that 1,200 yards. They return over 1,400 yards receiving and the top 6 receivers who accounted for 16 touchdowns last year.

Defensively they return its top 3 players in tackles from season, and all together 8 of its top 12 who also accounted for 6 INTs. This team also has 21 seniors for 2025.

I just read the center on Montgomery County has an offer from Tennessee. That’s huge. Congrats to that young man.

Any video for this one Saturday?

Hazard Game Day fit for tomorrow night.

This is a very interesting game. I very strong 1A team vs s middle of pack 5 A team. I do think Hazard is the favorite in this game. But it going be a slobber knocker of a game. If this game is close late in 4 th . I think Montgomery County will win , just because they have a little more depth than Bulldogs. But I could also see the Bulldogs winning by a couple scores too! If they get a good start to the game. To me this one game that is hard to pick.

The summer incident kind of lends some extra back story to this match up.

Game Day!!

Hoping Hazard comes out and plays good and doesn’t turn the ball over.
