The Spartans will take the 3 mile hike down Harrodsburg Road to Scrimmage the Generals this Friday! 

This is a scrimmage that almost feels like a must “win” for Lafayette. A 6A program who has fell off hard since some great years in the mid 2010’s trying to rebuild, can’t get outplayed by a 1A team on their home turf, even if it’s a private school. While obviously it’s a scrimmage and starters probably will only play 30 plays each, they have to find a way to out play a young Sayre team who probably won’t be as talented as the last couple teams have been.

Not necessarily on the score board. The score is irrelevant, if they go out there and get outplayed on both sides of the ball by a Sayre team who probably won’t be great, they may somehow take a step backwards this year if that’s possible. In terms of starting to turn the ship around and get some winning football back, going out there and being able to compete with Sayre, and maybe “win” the varsity scrimmage will give the team some confidence they’ll need going into the year.

You're not wrong—Lafayette does need to see some success. This program has reached the State Championship not once, but twice in the past decade.

Last year marked a significant improvement under Coach Lawson. The Generals recorded six wins—the most since their 2016 State Championship run, where they ultimately fell to Trinity. Since that 2016 season, Lafayette has totaled just 17 wins across eight seasons, with last year’s six victories being both the high point and their only winning season in that stretch.

If you're a Lafayette fan, you'd love to see this team return to prominence. While I don’t think tomorrow is a make-or-break moment for the Generals, I’ve noticed some promising changes and expect them to notch another winning season.

Lafayette seemed to be trending upward as the 2024 season ended, winning five of their last seven and losing 14-6 to Clark County in the playoffs. The schedule wasn't great but the Generals certainly were much improved. Sayre obviously won it all last year but also lost a ton to graduation. It will be interesting to see where both programs are at this point.

Only thing I've heard from the scrimmage was that Sayre varsity looked slightly better than Lafayette.

they did 10 plays V, then 10 plays JV for a while, then ran 7 on 7.
