Middle School turf fields?

I wouldn't say Dixie Youth has no problem getting the field.  PlayFanatics likely pays a pretty penny to use the field, so that money is going to trump all on a Sunday. It was going to cost me $1250 to host 3 softball games there years ago, so I can only imagine what PlayFanatics is paying to use the place.

There are 2 issues that likely still causes TF to not have games at Dixie.  #1 is the AD at TF.  If it is the same AD from the past few years, he doesn't want to be there and doesn't put effort into doing anything leaving the coaches trying to scramble to get things done.  Prior to him was the administration as a whole.  #2 is PlayFanatics.  Without them, Dixie Youth can host games on Sundays leaving the few available Saturdays to TF to host games.

I do know Dixie Youth and TF has tried to work out running games together on Saturdays where TF plays right after Dixie Youth, or Dixie Youth plays right after TF, but they couldn't find officials to cover the later games.

I do agree with the TF AD.  He doesn't really do anything.  He won't try to find coaches for sports they don't have but then claim they want to have, like wrestling.   Coaches end up doing his job many times with logistics, scheduling, etc.  Heck, they don't even transport kids for middle school games as a district, so really not sure what be does.

  • To further clarify my above answer - this is Owensboro MIddle’s school and field - bleachers, concessions, turf field and I believe the track has been redone.

Those goal posts would probably not be salvageable at this point, as those are the original ones from Scott's football field.

  • Yep. And the bluegrass patches came over from Scott's field as well. The dirt removed when Scott installed their turf field was used to fill in what used to be a very uneven, sloped field. The bleache

Boone County SD doesn't transport for high school, so not transporting for MS doesn't seem too bad.

I think there are more than a few MS ADs that don't really want to be there.

How to the high school teams get to their games?  Drive themselves?  So 70 football players are all carpooling?  If so, that's crazy.

After Covid and Covid 2.0 (20 and 21 seasons) a lot of MS went to self transport for games. If the MS program is responsible for paying for transportation that can turn out to be a decent bill. Now in NKY where a majority of the trips are short mileage wise that bill might not be as bad.

Kenton Co transports HS teams. I believe all gate money from all sports goes into one pool.

As far as a MS AD doing scheduling (I don’t know of a HS AD that does it) all the scheduling is typically done by whatever conference the MS team plays in. For the NKY football and basketball conferences that’s what happens. The AD does get the officials.

As far as an AD not wanting to be there goes I would say that is typical. You can also get stuck with volleyball being at home and having a “home” football game. You can’t be at two spots at once. You don’t have to have an AD present. Anyone on the administration team can serve as the site supervisor.

Thanks for the info.  Didn't know it was Covid that did away with transportation MS.  Wish they'd go back and bus them to their activities since the elementary schools only have basketball as a school sponsored sports team.

I am unsure on the HS football teams transportation.

However, I have shown up at many basketball & baseball games, parked next to & walked in with Boone/Ryle/Conner/Cooper players.

Wow.  I had no idea.  Seems like a big liability to me.

Smaller team sports or low/non revenue sports probably do self transport. Even more so if it’s a “local” game.  I’ve know some schools that provide transportation to the game but not home.
