I'll expand a little on my earlier post.  The administration received interest from a number of very well qualified candidates.  Of course, there were some more interesting than others - that's always the case.  The pool was narrowed to a list of finalists for consideration.  The final list was more than three and less than ten, but rest assured, this has been an extensive effort.  You can take or leave my next comment - the opportunity was very attractive to a lot of really good, qualified baseball people.  The administration is working very hard to identify the right candidate to lead this program and they'd never begin a process with only one name.  They certainly prioritized candidates of interest, but they didn't put all their eggs in one basket.   Whoever gets this job will be the right person for the job - they will certainly have earned it through the process.

I'm not sure how hot or cold the athletic department is on Velazquez, but I've heard his name mentioned quite a few times. He's a varsity assistant for the Bombers.

That's the guy. The small handful of baseball guys from around town that I've talked to all seem to concur that he's not the greatest coach out there.

Hearing there's an assistant or two from Moe now who've made their way in the discussion. I also hear there are some 1990's era CCH grads who think they need to try to lure Todd Etler back from his job in Texas LOL.

Totally right. Absolutely was a list of candidates and anybody who is telling people otherwise is just stirring pots and dumping wheat into the rumor mill.

John Michaels will be getting the job! He deserves it ! The kids like him and will play for him!

If Covington Catholic is expecting "long time" assistant coaches to be kept on the staff, this can be a deal breaker.  Let me explain.  If Coach #1 has been an assistant to Coach Krumps for a long time and the athletic department forces a retirement and does not hire Coach #1 as the new head coach but brings someone in from the outside but requires the new head coach to keep Coach #1 on staff, is this really a healthy situation in the coaches room?  I am saying no its not.  As an established head coach being offered this position, I would not take it if I had to keep assistant coaches on board unless I really had the opportunity to sit down with them and establish roles, etc. for Coach #1 along with my staff I am bringing with me.

all coaches were let go. Michaels desreves a shot. His JV record is very impressive. He will bring new ideas and new blood to coahc as well, Maybe not all at once but it will happen.
