Papa's Lady Royals should do really well in the field events as the meet progresses.

#️⃣1️⃣ Boyle County's top ranked 4×100 squad follows through with a win and bumps the Rebels into second in the team standings.

️ Caroline Beiting wins the 1600; puts Lex Cath in the lead over second place Bourbon Co 36-24.

️ Riku Sugi (Thomas Nelson) wins yet another state title in the boys' 1600. Cov Cath goes 2-3 with Will Sheets and Joe Mayer. Colonels take the team lead with 28 points. Harrison Co and Boyle Co tied for second with 16.

Sugi is the guy I had eyes on a couple of months ago.

Sugi is absolutely phenomenal; one of the best ever in the Bluegrass.

Sheets, good as he is, has to spread himself over more events for Cov Cath's title hopes. If the Colonels have a win locked down today, he can forgo the 4x400. I'd like to see them go at it hard in the 3200.

??‍♂️?‍♂️ | Event results coming in fast and furious. I'll highlight those contests soon.

It would appear Lex Cath and Cov Cath are well on their way to title repeats.

Girls TBD: Triple Jump - finals; 4x400 Relay - finals. Lex Cath #1 in 4x400. Lexi looks like a sure thing in the TJ for Mason.

Boys TBD: Shot Put - prelims; Long Jump - prelims; 4x400 Relay - finals,; Pole Vault - scheduled at 9:00 am and yet to start? Cov Cath has #1 Vaulter, could pick up Shot Put points, and should do well in the 4x400.

Team scoring frontrunners ~

Girls: Lex Cath 78, Calloway 63, Mason 56, Bourbon 50, Fleming 37

Boys: Cov Cath 67, Boyle 39.5, Bourbon 37, Tilghman 32, T Nelson 29

️ Short sprint duels, Part 2 - 200m

?? Jolana Schenkel (McCreary Cent) pulls a 100-200 double. Fleming Co's all-everything Kalynn Pease grabs 2nd.

?? Luke Kelly (Harlan Co) follows his 100 win in a close metric furlong over Lloyd's Josiah Lockridge.

Will Sheets and Joe Mayer go 2-3 again for 18 valuable points for Cov Cath, which should ice the team title for the Colonels.

⏱️ ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️ | 4x400 Relay - Always a great way to close out the day's running events.

? Lex Cath (Joanna Bryant, Abigail Turner, Sarah Scott, and Caroline Beiting) puts in a capstone effort to ensure a team title win.

The top five teams all placed well - Bourbon Co 4th, Calloway Co 5th, and Mason Co 7th.

? Bourbon Co (Jacob Ezell, Mark Perraut, Asher Mattox, Jesus Mendoza-Solis) trimmed nearly a second from their 2A leading time.

Cov Cath (Garrett Gallagher, Rhett Blettner, Jackson Schmid, Jack Fleck) dropped a jaw dropping 5+ seconds from the team's best this year.

Top five teams earned closeout points - Tilghman 3rd, Mercer Co 5th, and Boyle Co 7th.

??? A field events three-fer.

?? Girls' Triple Jump: Lexi Young (Mason Co JR) is a double winner in the jumps, also nabbing gold in the High Jump earlier. She just missed a jump sweep, placing second the Long Jump.

?? Boys' Shot Put: Mercer Co went 1-2 with two 50'+ throwers at UK. Bright future for the winner, soph Noah Nichols, who also placed 4th today in the Discus. Titan senior Gage Bennett added over one and a half feet to his PR for 2nd. Mercer Co sits in second in the team standings at this point behind two clutch performances.

? Boys Team Standings Update - one scoring event remaining ~

1. Cov Cath 75, 2. Mercer Co 48, 3. Bourbon Co 47, 4. Boyle Co 45.5, 5. Tilghman 38

Boys' Pole Vault is the lone remaining result we're looking for. Cov Cath can win the team title without points from 2A leader Paul Klosinski. Bourbon Co has two vaulters (Mark Perraut, Braden Goebel) and Boyle Co has one (Andrew Lockhart). Mercer Co and Tilghman have none, so we're looking for a shake up in final placings.

Updates much appreciated!
