? Cool and rainy is the forcast for today.

In a perfect world, @mcpapa and I would be side by side in Lexington on a sunny day cheering on our teams. Alas . . .

Edit: The meet is on a delayed schedule.

? I threw together a spreadsheet for team scoring based on Regional qualifying marks. Today could shake out something like this . . .

Defending champs Lexington Catholic and Covington Catholic will be hard pressed to repeat today.

? Meet has started. Field events underway.

Lexington Catholic girls strike first with a 4x800 Relay win. Bourbon Co second, John Hardin third . . .

Lady Knights senior Caroline Beiting will finish her high school career with 30+ team/relay/individual titles. We'll see her at the University of Michigan next year.

Lex Cath also start off with a boys' 4x800 win. Coach Bernadette Madigan-Dugan runs a terrific distance running program for the Knights.

Cov Cath (5th) running without Luke McLane at anchor (injury?) is a blow for the Colonels. Maybe four points down from where I thought they'd start.

Region 4 showing out, 1-2-3, in the girls' 100 Hurdles. TaZyriah Miley (Franklin Co SR) takes the gold; likely not her last of the day.

  • Author

✌️ As expected, Tanner Tumey (Harrison Co SR) repeats as 110 Hurdles champ. Look for him to do well in the Jumps and 300 Hurdles today too.

Two events scored - Boubon Co girls, Harrison Co boys in the lead.

️ Sprint duel, Part 1. Jolana Schenkel (McCreary Cent) nips Kalynn Pease (Fleming Co) in the girls' 100m Dash.

Rain has ended . . . for now.

️ Sprint duel, Part 2.

Luke Kelly (Harlan Co) takes gold in the 100. Pre-race favorite Josiah Lockridge (Lloyd) finishes third.

? Leaders, 3 events scored ~

Girls: Bourbon Co 16, Harrison Co, Franklin Co, Lex Cath, McCreary Cent - 10 each.

Boys: Harrison Co 16, Boyle Co 13, Harlan Co & Bourbon Co - 12 each, Lex Cath & Mercer Co - 10 each.

Harrison County has ALWAYS had hurdlers.

Straight facts from pops.

They've had really good throwers and jumpers over the years too.

Lex Cath's girls strike Relay gold again in the 4x200.

Lady Knights should do really well in all the Relays today.

Boys' 4×200 up next.

1600 coming up. Caroline Beiting (Lex Cath) favored again. Big showdown between Riku Sugi (Thomas Nelson) and Will Sheets (Cov Cath).

Sheets set the KY all-time best of 4:05.8 four weeks ago en route to winning the "Kentucky Dream Mile" at St. X. Colonels' fortunes will rely heavily on how he scores in the 1600, 800, 3200, and possibly the 4x400.

? Paducah Tilghman, one of the meet favorites, makes its scoring debut in second. Look for Relay member Kylen Ware to score big in the 400 and 200 later.

️ Caroline Beiting wins the 1600; puts Lex Cath in the lead over second place Bourbon Co 36-24.

️ Riku Sugi (Thomas Nelson) wins yet another state title in the boys' 1600. Cov Cath goes 2-3 with Will Sheets and Joe Mayer. Colonels take the team lead with 28 points. Harrison Co and Boyle Co tied for second with 16.

Field event results starting to trickle in.

Girls' Discus ~

Maddie Baker (Mercer Co FR) takes the gold. Pre-meet favorite and defending champ Germani Crosby (Lincoln Co) fouled in all three qualifying attempts and didn't make the finals cut.

Mercer Co produces outstanding field events athletes. Merger with Harrodsburg years ago really bolstered the Titans track fortunes.
