A new format this year has me interested in watching the NBA All Star game for the first time in a while. The 24 all stars are in 3 teams of 8. They will compete in a tournament with the rising stars being the 4th team. First team to 40 wins the game. 

Teams chosen by Kenny, Chuck and Shaq. Candace Parker coaching the rising stars.

 

Here are the rosters:

Team Shaq's "Old Guys": LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum, Kevin Durant, Damian Lillard, James Harden, Jaylen Brown and Kyrie Irving.

Team Chuck's "Global Stars": Donovon Mitchell, Nikola Jokic, Trae Young, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Victor Wembanyama, Pascal Siakam, Alperen Sengun and Karl-Anthony Towns.

Team Kenny's "Young Stars": Anthony Edwards, Jalen Brunson, Jaren Jackson Jr., Cade Cunningham, Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, Evan Mobley and Jalen Williams.

Team Candace's "Rising Stars": Keyonte George, G, Jazz; Stephon Castle, G, Spurs; Jaylen Wells, F, Grizzlies; Ryan Dunn, F, Suns: Dalton Knecht, F, Lakers; Zach Edey, C, Grizzlies; Trayce Jackson-Davis, C, Warriors; Jared McCain , G, 76ers (Injured, unable to play)

 

Tournament Format:

Team Kenny vs Team Chuck ... Tipoff at 8:20 pm

Team Shaq vs Team Candace ... Tipoff scheduled for 9:10 pm

The winners of those two games play for the "championship". Expected to tipoff at 10:00 pm

 

I think we might actually see competitiveness in this format, especially with the rising stars team. Thoughts? Will you watch?

Seeing the quick format and assuming these teams want to compete, I may watch some.  But, it depends on the Daytona 500 and how deep into the night they race.

Well, due to rain they moved it up and started about 145pm but it rained anyway after a few laps and we have been waiting.  Now it is looking like we could start before 6pm.  In short, looks like a conflict, may have to turn on another tv, lol.

The tournament was better than what we have seen in recent years but still needs tweaks.

Hockey rejuvenated their all star game with the 4 nations concept (they needed it).  The NBA tried, but it was pretty much a clown show.  To be fair, the problem lies with the players, who have had little interest in playing hard in the game for years.

That would be amazing, but I'm not sure our US players would agree to it. The World team would give the US team the business.
