I'm pretty sure McCarthy was in the last year of his contract during the 2024-25 season.  So outside of not having to bid against another team, I see no reason other than Jerry Jones as to why the Cowboys denied the Bears request.

If anyone has listened to Jerry the last couple of years, especially during the months of this season, I believe the guy is near senility.

Correct. This was not a firing, his contract just ran out. But to your point, Jerry wanted to avoid bidding against another team. I suppose nothing prohibits him from returning and this gives Dallas some leverage?
