So when the KFCA originally announced that they were going to start awarding a Mr. Football award each year, they didn't offer an official list of criteria for how they would come up with their finalists to vote amongst. A couple of years later they told the Lexington Herald-Leader that all players winning district and class player of the year awards were finalists, which presented the problem of having juniors as finalists for the award.

The year before last there was no official list of finalists circulated publicly, and then last year they had 9 finalists announced for the Mr. Football award, but again they didn't offer any criteria for players making the list.

We're all more than interested at this point in the year to see what the list of finalists will be...and that remains to be seen, but the KFCA has now listed their district players of the year for this year. With all 6 of the class-wide players of the year being seniors, I'm going to assume that those are the KFCA's finalists for the 2024 Mr. Football Award?

@ChiefSmoke can you confirm?

IF that is this list we vote from, only 2 on there are State Champions. After watching the State Finals, my vote (like that means anything, my vote and a $1.06 would get you a large coke at McDonalds), would be for Brock Coffman, he had a great Championship game!

Add....

Bryce Button, South Warren

Jack James, Paducah Tilghman

Jarren Johnson, Union County

Connor Hodge, CAL

Also.... received this info from the KFCA Board....

The 6 winners of each class are automatically candidates for Mr. Football. After the state finals, KFCA Regional Reps and Elected Council Reps can suggest additional candidates to the KFCA BOARD ( Executive Director, President, Vice President, & Past President).

HS coaches can make suggestions through their reps.

The final ballot is set by the KFCA Board and distributed to the HS coaches. (Do they have to be KFCA members?) (No, all coaches get ballot to vote)

After the votes are tabulated, Mr. Football is announced.

(And Jimmie Reed COY award announced at same time)

Chief Smoke you forgot a few.  Clay Hayden from Beechwood and the Elam kid from Corbin probably will not win it but they definitely belongs on any final list.

I did forget Elam. Thought I mentioned Hayden. He was on my list!
