Sneaky good game this Friday as Hopkinsville travels to Allen County to take on the Patriots.

Hopkinsville (3-5) is coming off a 20-13 win at Logan County and is playing their best football of the season. With a 34-32 season opening loss to Greenwood and a close 41-32 loss to Warren East as games that could have went either way.

Allen County comes in off of a 41-14 win over Calloway County last Friday and are currently 7-1. This Patriot squad is tough, hard nosed and is a really good team.

Calpreps has this one as a 35-21 ACS win and that seems about right. I could see this game being back and forth most of the night.

What says you?

I really like this matchup for Hopkinsville, I believe the Tigers will have the size and speed defensively to alter what the Patriots like to do. Think this one will be decided on what the Hopkinsville offense can get going if they’re able to get their guys in space it could cause some problems for the Allen County secondary. If they are able to hold Treston Kay to limited production and get after the QB the Patriots should lock up the two seed in the district. I’ve always lived by the motto “if the teams are about equal go with the better QB”, and I’m a really big fan of SR QB Braylon Adams for this Patriots team, just a gamer and is willing to extend plays and make things happen. I would love to see an upset here and cause some chaos in the playoff picture for 4A District 1, but I’ll go with Allen County to continue their great season and set up an exciting game against Barren County next week.

Assuming Friday goes status quo the following matchups for Round 1 of the playoffs would be

(4) Breckinridge at (1) Paducah

(3) Warren East at (2) John Hardin

(4) Hopkinsville at (1) Bardstown

(3) Nelson County at (2) Allen Co. Scottsville

Am I mistaken in that @TheBallCoach?

That is correct @WKY_Football. I do think it could get rather complicated if the Patriots and Raiders happen to lose, which is possible. I’ll go out on a limb and say if I had to pick one district in the state to sweep the first round of the playoffs I would pick 4A District 1. Hopkinsville as a 4 seed would not be an easy draw for anybody, especially a Bardstown team that’s shown lack of consistency throughout the year.

I know a topic of discussion this offseason was about condensing the playoffs, and I enjoyed the thought, even caught myself leaning in favor of it. After seeing situations like this and having some great games getting lined up down the road, I do understand why everyone having an opportunity to compete in the playoffs isn’t always a bad idea.

Hopkinsville up 14-13 at the half. Tigers get the ball after the break.

Hopkinsville marches down the field and scores, 2 point conversion is good.

22-13 Tigers up, had the scores flipped at half.

Patriots simply cannot get off the field on defense. Keep giving up seam route conversions.

22-21 Hopkinsville after 3. They’re at Allen County-Scottsville 16 w 2nd and 9.

Considering that Logan County took the lead on East, a bit of a nightmare starting to play out for ACS. If both they and East lose, Hopkinsville will clinch the 2 outright. Allen County-Scottsville at least wants East to win to give them a fighting chance.

Hopkinsville scores on 4th and 9 - another pass on a seam route right up the middle. Two point try is no good, opening the door. 28-21.

28 all with 10:20 left. Hopkinsville not having any success slowing Allen County-Scottsville, but Patriots just can’t stop Hopkinsville on 3rd and 4th down.
