5A Moore (3-3) at 5A South Warren (5-1)

The Spartans, fresh off their BYE week, await the Mustangs of Moore High School (Louisville).  This will be the second time these teams have played.  South traveled up to Louisville last year and came home with a 48-15 win.

Moore Mustang Information

Through 6 stat games, Moore has 728 rushing yards and 693 passing yards, so that’s pretty balanced and a plus for trying to battle a sound South Warren defense.  Throughout the season, the primary QB for Moore has been talented SR Keyon Johnson, who has passed for just over 500 yards with 4 TDs vs 2 INT.  However, SO QB Javis Wallace played the majority of snaps behind center this past week vs Seneca and was 5 for 7 with 138 yards 3 TDs vs 0 INTs, so that’s pretty impressive for a sophomore.  RB Maddox Knuckles has over 530 yards on the ground with 5 TDs on the year.  WR Tristan Jackson has 14 receptions for 279 yards and 4 TDs on the year.  Defensively, QB now LB Keyon Johnson leads the way on this side of the ball with 68 tackles on the year.

Moore defeated Seneca at home last Friday 21-13.

South Warren Spartan Information

The Spartans rested from their time off want to keep the momentum rolling after crushing district foe Greenwood 42-0.  Through 5 stat games, South is led by Star SR QB Bryce Button with over 1,000 yards passing with 14 TDs vs 4 INTs.  Leading RB is Kayden York with over 300 yards and 2 TDs on the year.  Jake Carter leads Spartan WRs with 20 catches 300 yards and 4 TDs.  Defensively, SR Brody Enslow leads the way with 46 tackles on the year.

Game Preview

6A Lafayette narrowly defeated Moore 16-6 on September 26^th.  Moore had a total of about 100 yards offense in that game with nearly balanced numbers.  But I feel the Spartan defense is better than the Generals of Lafayette’s defense or any defense the Mustangs have faced this season.  Playing at South is also an advantage.  I just don’t think Moore will have any success on offense and the Spartan defense will continue to set the Spartan offense up with favorable field positions.  It is a plus for Moore to have found another QB to play as playing both QB and LB (Keyon Johnson) is fun in Middle School and even lower classifications.  But I just think it catches up to you in 5A, but Keyon Johnson has to be a great athlete, so good luck to him.

It was 48-15 South last time.  I’ll take South 42 – Moore 7.

What do you guys think?

Running clock.

Can someone refresh my memory as to why this two game series exists? Seems like a strange get for South Warren's schedule.
