Moeller plays in the very tough GCL, which last year was ranked (by someone) as the top HS league in the nation for sports, The GCL is an Ohio powerhouse for football, swimming, baseball as well as basketball.

 

Moeller is always a team to challenge for a state title in Ohio, winning the title a couple of years ago. As I said before, as much as I love KY sports, Ohio is a different world, VERY strong programs over there. Moeller played in a tourney our in Arizona in December, and crushed some very good teams. They also crushed a very good LaSalle (GCL) team by like 30, which is unheard of in the GCL.

 

Again, top 20-30 I can see, top 10 would be pushing it, #1 there is no way. But again, there are a very talented team.

GCL South is amazing. Moeller, Elder, LaSalle, and St. X all won a Division I State Championship within an 8 or 10 year span and just last week they were 1-4 in the Cincinnati area coaches poll.

But Moeller #1 in the NATION?....I can sum it up in two words...not a chance!

Guess not anymore.

Looks like Scott co. may be the best team now, or one of the best.

I keep saying this, as much as I love KY basketball, it would be very hard for any KY school to beat any of the big boys in Ohio.

 

I can tell you from experience, this is NOT true.

 

Maybe in football, not in basketball. And I'd take Scott County over Moeller this year. They have more talent.

What I meant was, just as in football, Ohio has about 5 times as many schools, which you can argue there are 5 times as many great teams. It would be a challenge for any KY school to play in a league like the GCL, It wouldn't be easy and it wouldn't be a guarantee that a KY team would win. I agree I would take Scott Co. as well this year. It would be interesting to see Scott Co. play in the GCL this year and see what they would have done.

I think I understand your point, but I only agree with it to a certain degree.

 

Football and basketball are different animals in Ohio. In most years, I'd take the 10 best teams in Ohio D-I and the 10 best teams in Kentucky and if they have at it, it's a wash. In football, you'd be hoping for years when Kentucky could win more than one, if that many games. That's not a knock on Kentucky football, more of a credit to Ohio football.

 

Scott County would win the GCL this year, no one in the league could match their speed and ability to shoot the ball. They'd lose to someone, but they'd win the league.

 

BTW the GCL is a really good league, but it's only half as good as the people associated with the GCL say it is.
