Danville at Mercer County Predictions/Updates

It's week four of the season and the Ads face another opponent from a higher class, traveling to Mercer County to face the Titans in a 12th region showdown.

Danville (0-3) is looking to snap a 15-game losing streak and head coach Frank Parks is still looking for his first win as head coach.  The Ads have been dominated through their first three games, only scoring 13 points against the likes of East Jessamine, Pulaski County, and Lincoln County.

Mercer County (1-2) is enjoying its third season under head coach Craig Yeast.  Yeast doubled the Titans win totals between first and second seasons from five wins to ten.  The Titans opened the season against 6A competition, losing by two touchdowns to Bullitt East and three touchdowns in a shootout against Simon Kenton.  Last week they notched their first victory of the 2024 campaign, blowing out Shelby County 43-14.

When these teams played last year it was a lopsided game.  Mercer won easily 48-10, throwing for 122 yards and rushing for 189 more. 

Is this week a repeat of that performance or will the Ads pull the upset?

Mercer will improve to .500 and the clock will be running, both on the game and the Danville administration to repair this broken program.

Looking at Danvilles schedule, realistically I can only see the Admirals getting one possible win. That being against Knox Central next week. Hopefully they can pull that one off. Go Ads!

Lots of Ads fans, like me, had that game circled as a possible win but Knox Central beat Somerset last week so......

I watched the Lincoln/Danville game on Youtube on Sat.  Then I saw the score of Knox Cental and Leslie County.  @DanvilleFan, I hate to say it, but 0-11 is looking more realistic all of the time.

I've had the same sinking feeling but you have to have hope.  If the Ads were to post a 0-23 mark over the last 2 years + 2022 playoff game that would just be like bizarro world to me.

Admirals First Drive

1st & 10 - Naythan Doyle (Fr.) tries to QB keeper but is knocked back 5 yards.  Broken play, possibly.

2nd & 15 - Chandon Carter (So.) rushes for about 3 yards.

3rd & 12 - Sellers gets the reverse but is tackled back at the Ads 4 yard line for a big loss.  Titans just blow up the play at the line.  13 yard loss.  Ouch.

4th & 25 - Kaleb Wilcher (Sr.) punts and Braidin Baughman muffs it but is able to fall on top of it even though the Ads surround him.

Mercer County first drive with 9:39 left in the first quarter (Score 0-0)

1st & 10 - Baughman (Sr.) breaks a run all the way to the end zone against his former team (forgot to note that in the preview!).  TOUCHDOWN.  Talk about not wasting time to make a statement.

Extra point is.....GOOD.

Mercer County leads 7-0 with 9:42 left in the first quarter.

Marquis Elmore (so.) decides to field a kickoff that was going out of bounds so Ads start on their own 16.

Admirals second drive

1st & 10 - Doyle misses a throw to J'Kaivin Walker (jr.)

2nd & 10 - Ads announcers begging for a positive play.  False start knocks Ads back 5 yards.

2nd & 15 - Carter knocked back quick on a run attempt by a gang of Titans players.  Three yard loss.

3rd & 18 - Ads try a toss to Jutayvion Beasley (so.) but the Titans quickly mess that up too.  7 yard loss and the Ads end up on their 1 yard line.

4th & 25 - Wilcher punts to Baughman in downed at the Ads 27.

Mercer County second drive (8:02 left in the first quarter; Mercer leads 7-0)

1st & 10 - QB Cornelius Mapp (jr.) throws Landon Yates (sr.) for 7 yard gain.

2nd & 3 - Baughman goes the wrong direction on a run but is able to outmaneuver Ads defenders for a 5 yard gain.  FIRST DOWN.

So on the run, Baughman FUMBLES it and the Ads get it back at their 18.

Admirals third drive (Mercer leads 7-0)

1st & 10 - Ads flagged for illegal substitution.

1st & 15 - Run goes for no gain.

2nd & 15 - Sellers barely gets out of the end zone on a run and is tackled on the 1 yard line.  Ads having to run backwards to avoid getting touched quickly by the Titans but the Titans are on top of everything anyway.

3rd & 26 - Carter throws an INTERCEPTION by Shemmy Brigmn (jr.), Titans take the ball up to the Ads 10.
