Highlands coaching update

BREAKING NEWS EDITION:

Well Highlands can finally move on from the coaching chaos that was transpiring for the last 2 weeks.  I really don't want to include any mud slinging or bring up any gossipy rumors so I will try to keep it to the factually data that has transpired over these tumultuous few weeks that the program has had to deal with.

Friday, Aug 23rd:  The school advised Norris that he needs to take a break from the program.  Call it a suspension or whatever you want.....he was no longer able to attend games/practices until the administration decided they would want him back.  The school quickly promoted Kelsey Etherton as the Interim Head Coach to run the program while this was occurring.

Early week of Aug 26th Varsity Assistant Andy Deimling decided to leave the program on his own.

Wednesday, Sep 4th:  The school granted Norris the approval to come back to his Head Coaching position

Thursday, Sep 5th:  Highlands varsity played Bellevue with Norris on the sidelines flanked by a few administrators and didn't do much coaching at all.

Friday, Sep 6th:  Chris Norris is no longer the Head Coach or even a part of the Highlands soccer program.  I don't want to state if he either got fired, quit, resigned, etc.  In my mind I really don't care at the end of the day, regardless of how it went down on this day, Highlands will have another voice leading this program.

Chris Norris leaves a program during his 4th season at the helm.  His major accomplishment will be winning the 9th Region in 2022, then falling to Lexington Catholic in the 1st Round of the State Tournament.

My guess will be that Kelsey Etherton will finish this season as the Head Coach of the Varsity team, with the school then making a long term decision after that.  I would STRONGLY urge the school (if Kelsey wants it) to hire Kelsey as the leader of the program for the long term.  She absolutely has my 110% endorsement and will be a great (as she has been in the last several years being a coach in the program) Role Model for all these young female Student Athletes.  She is one of us graduating from Highlands in 2015 (I believe), and is currently a Math teacher in the High School seeing these players everyday in the hallways.

Well they had a good young coach that was a Highlands grad and ran him off.  Guess state final appearances were not enough.  Seems most hires by this AD and principal have not gone too well.  Also concerns me when two HHS grads who each had great success have chosen to step aside.  Is it possible that all of these situations are related?

Similar situation.  Parents run the girls' program.

It amazes me at this point that anyone is willing to take on roles at certain programs with the amount of nonsense, interference, and irrational behaviors parents are exhibiting. And it's getting worse every year. I have a great amount of respect for anyone who leads high school programs at this point...especially in the big programs at certain schools.

I knew Chris Norris in my younger days and always found him to be kind, upstanding, and good hearted. Very surprised by this.

Great comment - I agree on all counts
