Ballard at Bullitt East (Scrimmage) 8/16

Ballard will make the short trip to Mt. Washington this Friday to scrimmage the Chargers.  Ballard made the same trip two years ago but the return trip to Ballard was derailed by last years JCPS bus fiasco. 

Bullitt East will start it's 3rd new QB in the last 3 seasons in Jr. Cole Cornell, as the Chargers lost their signal caller, Jack Zwernemann, to graduation.  They do return a pretty good RB duo in Mikey West and Alec Britt as well as Sr Wr's Bostock and Cowan.  Their D will be anchored by DE Baron Hardesty, LB Ryan Rayhill, and DB Brady Cornell. 

Ballard's biggest change this year comes in the form of a new Head Coach.  Adrian Morton led the Bruins the state semi's, barely losing to Bryan Station before announcing his resignation in early Dec.  Matt Kuehn takes over the head coaching gig after serving two years as an assistant at Ballard.  Coach Kuehn last squared off against the Chargers as the head man at cross county rival Bullitt Central in 2021.  He led B.C. to it's best season ever (9-4, 3rd round exit) in '21 before unexpectedly being shown the door.  Coach Kuehn returns his QB, Larry Irvine, and his best WR, Maurice Stephens. 

Will be interesting to see how these two teams square up this Friday in Mt. Washington.

Bullitt East gets a first down from a couple of runs and then two bad snaps force a 3rd and long that the Chargers can’t convert. 
 

Ballard takes over.

Bruins take the ball all the way to the BE 15 but Ballards fg attempt is blocked. Unfortunately, the special teams are not live. Ballard attempts the fg again and this time it’s good.

After both teams punt BE gets pinned and after a couple of bass snaps the result is a safety. We are playing no contact on qb and if touched the ball is dead. BE struggling to move the ball but to be honest they cannot establish anything because of high snaps. Chargers have a lot of work to day and can’t really work on things because of high snaps. Frustrating.

BE throws a 45 yard TD on 3rd and 35. 
 

Chargers got the ball back with an interception at the 50. After a couple of first downs the had several plays losing yards. The TD may have been on 4 th down. I was coming from bathroom. Sorry. XP no good.

Ballard opens second half by driving all the way down inside the 10. Holding call moves them back and drive stalls. Missed FG. 

Still 6-5 Chargers. 6:05 left in 3rd.

Chargers drive 65 yards or so mostly on the ground and punch it in from the 1. Missed XP again.

Ballard gets it one more possession before JV takes over. Drive stalls out around midfield. 
Bullitt East wins the varsity portion of the scrimmage. Both teams kept offenses pretty vanilla. Both have a lot they can work on. Only good offense from Bullitt East came on the drive to make it 12-5. Effort was there by both teams. Just lack of execution here and there.
