DCA has a nice team and will contend in the 12th but Adair was without 4 starters from last years state tournament team today Cochran, Loy, Coomer, and Grant due  to previous scheduling at start of summer Adair had planned already to take a mix of varsity and JV guys

DCA only had three players with significant experience from last year on the floor.  The rest were JV.  Plus, they have a new coach with a new defense and offense.

South Laurel with wins over East Jess, Pulaski County, Leslie County, and Southwestern recently

What did East, Southwestern, and Pulaski look like? I know South Laurel should be really good this year, just curious how the 12th teams stacked up.

Beat Pulaski in OT. 40 pieced southwest and coasted against East Jess(although they played better than last week when they faced them at Morehead). Pulaski should roll in the 12th from what I saw this summer as long as the guards can handle pressure

Mercer County and Pulaski will meet in some round, when they do that will be regional final.

This was kind of out of the blue and most could probably care less about this but popped into Simon Kenton last night and caught a good 9th grade game between Cov Cath and Lloyd. Was a good game for it to be summer league 9th grade. Game broken up in 2-20 min. halves with score resetting back to 0 at end of half. 1st half Lloyd 39-35. 2nd half Cov Cath 24-20. Noticed Cov Cath knocking down a lot of contested jump shots, Lloyd playing with a lot of length and speed on both ends of the floor. Both teams played extremely hard and intense like neither wanted to concede to the other. A lot of tough fouls while also keeping the game under control. Was nice to see 2 talented teams pushing each other hard at this time in the year trying to see what they have in the tank. I know not a lot to take from 9th grade summer league at this point in the year but was a fun game to watch. I am sure there has been a lot of tough and fun match ups going on across the state. Fun time for basketball as not much else going on with football until 7v7's start after dead period in NKY area.

A few kids from the game left a lasting impression on me. Cov Cath is Cov Cath so you kind of already know what to expect from them. They looked clean and like they were running their "system" but they had one kid who really separated himself from the rest. He really ran the show for them and everything pretty much operated through him. He made a lot of contested shots and looked smooth the whole game to where he never looked like he forced anything even though it was obvious he would handle the volume of the scoring. He moved fluently around the court. I was told by some fans/parents his name was Dillon but wasnt able to get a last name for him, he was #44. He was around 5'11-6'0 and around 150-160 lbs, good build at his age and was told he also has a bright future as a QB. I will be keeping an eye out/ear open about him for the next several years. Lloyd was quite surprising. They had 3 kids that really stood out. 1 was likely their lead guard, big stretch here but the kid reminded me of a poor mans Reed Shephard. The kid had a good all around game. I would say pretty much same type of game as the kid from Cov Cath but with a little less size maybe about 5'9-5'10 150 lbs and it seemed like a little less pressure on him to do majority of the scoring maybe because of Lloyds get up and down the floor type of play so I don't think I saw everything the kid has in his bag. Was told he is a high level 3 sport(FB,baseball, basketball) athlete who has been seeing varsity baseball action since 7th grade and would be seeing varsity football action this season. #3 Colton Barger is the name I was given, excuse me for any misspelling of names. The other 2 kids from Lloyd were probably the most athletic kids in the gym. There was 2 courts with games going on. Both kids were flying up and down the court all night. They both were close to the tallest kids on the court and I watched them both guard positions 1-5 on defense seemingly without any struggle. They looked comfortable on the perimeter and also down low on both defense and offense. Watched them both block shots, grab rebounds, intervene in passing lanes with their length and put pressure on ball handlers, both still seemed really raw at the same time like they still have a lot of potential they can reach with their all around game. Watched them both grab rebounds and push the ball coast to coast with nice finishes at the basket and also pick up assists. Cov Cath pressed a lot and they both made a lot of right outlet passes for assists also. The way they were able to float around the court clearly impacted the whole game. In todays game of position- less basketball it looked like they could fit in and play with or against anyone(age, skill, around theres).didn't see them shoot any jumpers but scoring wasnt an issue for them. Was able to get some personal info on them as well. Both are 3 sport (FB,BB,Track) athletes as well.  Apparently both look at football as their main sports but are really starting to find their way in basketball. Here's a kicker/fun fact I was told, they are related. When told their names I imagined they were cousins but was told one is uncle and one is nephew. Damaron Peterson #12 around 6'0-6'1 160-170 lbs. and Marjay Peterson #13 around 5'11-6'0 140-150 lbs. Another fun fact I found out, if anyone remembers Desean Peterson(who was a bonafide dawg at football in NKY) from Holmes, one is his son and one is his brother. The two could have a bright future ahead if they continue to grow and develop. Also interesting if football is their priority sport I am curious too see them on the football field now. By randomly stopping in SK yesterday I was happy that I came across atleast another 4-5 talented freshman to keep tabs on for the next 4 years or so in NKY sports. Both Cov Cath and Lloyd looked like they have good foundations for the future even aside from the pieces I mentioned .
