Boyd County 56 Ashland 55 (OT) (64th District Championship)

Featured Replies

Final from Boyd County Middle School in Summit. Boyd County (25-6) lifts the 64th District hardware for the second straight season over Ashland (20-10).

The Lions and Tomcats delivered again. So did Jacob Spurlock and Zander Carter. Spurlock drained the game winner from long range with six seconds left. Carter was a force all game long, but was unable to find the answer in the final seconds.

High Scorers

Boyd County ?? - Spurlock 26 (13 rebounds) | Ellis 12

Ashland ?? - Carter 25 (10 rebounds) | Jennings 10 | Frieze 10

Heck of a shot by Spurlock to win it for the Lions! he carried Boyd in the 4th and OT.

Spurlock scored Boyd’s last 16 points!

Any video from this one?

Intense defense for both teams. I'm going to watch this one again but it seemed like Ashland had the most success when they played an extended zone. I may be mistaken but their comeback and eventual lead ran concurrently with their longest stretch of zone. Water under the bridge at this point but if one of these two teams wins the 16th (as expected) their defense could allow them to pull an upset or two at Rupp. I don't have the stats but Ashland's mid and long range shooting was uncharacteristically bad. A lot of that can be attributed to Boyd's defense but they did miss a lot of open shots (and so did Boyd). Both teams left a lot on the table, should be a fun time in Morehead, especially with Fleming and a few others with plenty enough talent and coaching to play the spoiler role.

They were 4/23 from behind the arc, which has to be close to a season worst for makes and percentage. When Lalonde misfired on a few in a row spanning a minute or two, you knew it wasn't Ashland's night from deep.

16th region has a very tough draw.
