Jessie Lorenz, Pendleton County

One more from me. I have followed this kid for quite a while and this county. New football progam, lack of support, etc from coaching for many kids in this county....many will never be noticed unless someone makes an extra effort.Lorenz did more in the few games he got to play than most did in playing all games; but, he is being overlooked!!! Someone needs to step up.There are other players in that county with great potential. Need outside help. News media, something....cause he won't come for the coaches or the athletic dept. all politics. I am new to this website and if I say something that upsets someone...then may...they need to pay attention...getting honest is not easy. These kids and their future is. It shouldn't be who you know, who you are related to, who's pocket you're in. Someone outside that county needs to pay attention. Don't get manipulated into the bull. Listen with eyes and ears.

Sounds like a natural football player, but raw. The lack of coaching is going to scare colleges off as much as anything. It sounds like he would benefit from prep school or JUCO to get a little coaching and a little time to work a reputation up.

One of the funniest posts I have read on here and the same ole story. It is always someone else's fault. Too many times the parents make a bed for their kid and then are upset when their kid has to lie in that bed. Parents DO NOT have objective views of their kids. Their child is always the greatest and ready to go straight from MS to the NFL/MLB/NBA/WNBA/etc.

Too many times the parents don't want to hear the truth about their child so the administration or the coaches get the blame that their child CAN'T play at UK or a UT or a wherever. And the reason they can't is that physically they are not the right size, academically they haven't made the grades for those schools to consider them, their attitude (parent's attitude) stands in their way or they simply aren't good enough.

Last time I checked ANY PARENT can purchase two VCR's at Walmart for a total of $50 and make their own tape if it is that big of a deal. And there are multiple companies out there to perform the job much better than the coaching staff.

You have to understand that the coaches are teachers first. You want to add a recruiting coordinator title for each and every player to the coaches' responsibilities with their teaching and coaching responsibilties, then hire ONLY single people who want to have NO LIFE or married parents who never want to spend time wiht their family. The coaches ARE NOT the servants of the parent's whim. IT IS THE PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LEAD THE RECRUITING PROCESS.

I won't go any further in this debate but I was not going to be quiet while people in PC that do things that are best for ALL the kids are being ripped.

^ This is why good coaches quit!! Because of all the "your not doing enough for my kid" crap that takes place all the time. If your kid is big enough, strong enough, fast enough, smart enough, quick enough, and willing to give it everything they have to make it then you as a parent need to get with it and help them (coaches, recruiters, colleges) out. As stated above get the equipment and make video tapes, make copies and send them out. Hire recruting agent, and then hit the road visiting colleges.

One other thing that sprang to mind as I read your post. The coach can be put in a very tight position. Parent thinks Kid A is a UK type prospect. Kid A is NOT a UK type prospect. They demand the coach speak to UK for Kid A.

His starting QB the next two seasons is Kid A's little brother. Does he....

Contact UK and speak for Kid A playing at that level when he knows the kid is not. And now his reputation with the coaching staff at UK is damaged and they call into question his judgement of talent. And so 3-4 years down the line when he ACTUALLY does have a player that is UK talent, they question it based on previous experiences. But the parents are satisfied and the next two years can go on without the parents throwing fits and claiming the coach did not do enough for their kid.

OR

Does he tell the parents that the kid is not at the UK talent level but is a Georgetown talent level. THey throw a fit, go to the AD saying the coach is not doing enough for their kid and it's all politics since their kid is not a certain person. They go online somewhere and take shots at the coaches, administration and the like all because they didn't want to hear the truth about their child.

I heard a story once that parents were upset because the coach had the audacity to tell their 5'6" daughter that was a nice player and could have played at a NCAA DIII level that he would not contact Tennessee or UCONN for their daughter.

The coach may not tell someones child but a recruiting agency will. The coach should but sometimes won't. I just don't get it sometimes. I know for a fact that some coaches do more than others but they all do something and try very hard. I know in this area all the coaches try to help other teams kids. Some kids stand out and the coaches really try and help them get into college no matter what team they play for. Like I said this is why some really good coaches don't coach because of parents.

I know for a fact that this family mentioned is making tapes and visiting colleges. I also have heard from the coaching staff that none of the players are DI or DII material. That statement came before the season even started. This is coming from a entire new staff. I am not sure that this type of statement should of been made. These boys were new to the game yes and on top of it had to learn a whole new system. IMO, I don't think you can tell from 2 weeks of practice whether a kid has what it takes.

I feel that PC has made themselves an island. We do not belong to Northern Kentucky, so no coverage from there and we do not belong to Central Kentucky again no coverage.

Parents and the community need to get involved. I go to meeting after meeting regarding sports in this community and the same 5-10 people are there. We cannot move this county forward with that small amount of people. I have left messages for parents to join in and get no response, yet when their child plays for a team, they (the parents) reap the benefits that the 5-10 parents worked so hard to obtain. If anyone has an idea of how to fix this, please by all means let me know. If the politics at this high school are not to your liking, then join in to create changes...

That none of the players are Div. 1 or 2. That is nothing but bull hockey. I guess that is why the Pettitt kid is being wooed by Michigan. Because he is not Div. 1 or 2 material. Let me tell you this the coach at PC has lost a few of his players because he is has no clue. As stated before several kids are referrinf to the previous coach for recruiting purposes.( I believe he is in Tenn now) from what I heard he hurt the Lorenz kid too. I think the school need to get rid of the idiot and find a real coach before PC goes back to not having a football team. I believe if he stays one more year they are headed straight to no football.

Its not mandatory that coaches try and help out their players succeed and make it to the next level by helping in the recruiting process, but it is something that can be helpful. I know my basektball coach helped me send out tapes and got my name out. I didnt go D1, but i never expected too. I dont think Lorenz expects to go to an Ohio State either, but some help from the coach would go along way. My coach did everything he could, and he helped me find a perfect fit. Did he have to, No. But being the coach, wouldnt you want your players to make it on to the next level? I know i would, and that my coach did as well. For that i am very grateful to him.

It is my opinion too that PC is going to lose its football program. I think the coaching staff has some good ideas, they just haven't worked with a new program and how to build it. We are not Highlands,Cov Cath or Ryle, there isn't a tradition and you cannot bully these kids into playing football.

As many of you already know, I supported the previous coach and thought he had the right stuff for starting up the program. I have seen a letter that he wrote to each individual senior of this years team and believe me he offered to help every one of them move forward, especially Lorenz. Not sure how he hurt him but I don't think it was intentional as with the coaching staff that is there now.

Pettit and his family have made several trips to Michigan. If his health holds out, we will see him in the blue and gold in a couple of years! But he isn't the first to wear blue and gold, we already had our first college player at Morehead and I am not sure of Union's colors but our second player to move on is there.

Pendleton County has NOT made themselves the island. The Post has been petitioned to include PC in their coverage and they have refused. Letters have been sent to the Editor of the Post and Enquirer explaining why they should be covered and the editors of those papers have made the decision to not cover PC as part of NKY. I am not sure what you expect anyone from PC to do if the papers and media in NKY make a business decision to not treat PC as part of NKY.

As far as your last paragraph, 100% correct and accurate. It falls on the shoulders of a handful to do everything. And when that everything is not to a somebody from the community's liking, they love to say how wrong it is being done.

As far as the coach helping, absolutely they should help. Absolutely they should guide and help. But NOT DO IT ALL or be expected to do it all.

Let me say too that there are wonderful parents in PC. GREAT parents that are essential parts of the athletic program. And while my posts are not directed at Jesse Lorenz, since the thread is titled with his name, I do need to point that out so that my posts are clear. MY PERSONAL dealings with his family have ALWAYS been positive and I have enjoyed knowing their family.

My posts was general in nature to the comment that only "the in the know" people in PC got the breaks and as I reread them I think they might not have come across that way and I want to be clear on that.

FP30 I am not talking about the previous coach hurting Lorenz. If it sounded that way it wasn't meant that way. I was meaning this years coach hurt Lorenz. You are right about others going to Morehead and Union, but there is a BIG difference between those 2 schools and The Blue and Maize. Not to knock 1AA or smaller schools, but they don't hold a candle to Michigan. I also know a few boys are not playing this next year that played last year because of the coach.

Because he ran them and disciplined them. That's a joke.

So you want him to model his program off of unsuccessful programs???? There are a LOT of good things happening at PC. The coaching staff is EXCELLENT. Look at T. He ran that same running program at CC and he wasn't small or athletic. He was tough and smart. In order to have a successful team you have to weed out.... ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE. I understand people weren't happy with the previous coach leaving and I understand that T is not the same. That doesn't make him (or the other coach) wrong. AS for Lorenz..... I think he needs to realize he's a player and not a coach and what your coach says goes. Welcome to HS football.

By the way...... I probably know more about the situation than anyone on this sight and PC should feel blessed that T is the head coach.

I'm not up to date...who is the current coach and who was the previous coach? What was the purpose of the coaching change and how as that affected the players?
