12th Region Week 8 Rankings and Review

Featured Replies

Very little changes this week and there won't be an in-depth breakdown on each time as the weather wiped out almost all games in the region this week. East Jessamine got blown out by district foe Mercer County and Boyle did the same to arch rival Danville, marking the only two games that had top ten teams in them that happened this week. DCA goes to the All A where they take on Breathitt County. If they win that, which they should, they will likely face Newport out of the 9th region (unless Sayre knocks them off first). Somerset hosts Pulaski in a crosstown battle and district games continue to proceed across the region.

1. DCA

2. Somerset

3. Lincoln County

4. Pulaski County

5. Mercer County

6. Wayne County

7. Rockcastle County

8. East Jessamine

9. Southwestern

10. Boyle

11. McCreary Central

12. Trinity Christian

13. Danville

14. West Jessamine

15. Somerset Christian

16. Garrard County

17. Casey County

18. Burgin

I did a breakdown of the All A defensive rankings (based on Massey) and if DCA and Newport square off it might be a real defensive battle.  Newport is #7 in the state on DCA is #17.

It looks like Pulaski’s Fraley has been back for two games now. Is he healthy and what do you think his return does for them in terms where they could be ranked over the next couple of weeks? Are they a potential top 2 team with a healthy Fraley?

They would be top 3 - they would put themselves clearly in a tier with DCA and Somerset above Mercer, Lincoln, and Wayne. I think any of those 6 could win it all.

Pulaski beat Clay at Clay County last night 20. Maybe Fraley is making a bigger impact than even expected.

And Lincoln County with the win over Madison Central. I think those 4 top teams are starting to separate themselves. Still could lose on any given night and Mercer and Wayne still have firepower, but hard to deny DCA, Somerset, Lincoln and Pulaski aren't looking really darn good right now.

Wayne County can be as good as anyone on any given night. And they very well could figure out and win three games in a row in the region tournament. As their guard play gets more consistent the Cardinals will only get better. I have only seen Mercer play twice this year. Both nights they played well. Should be an interesting next month!

I can't put my finger on Wayne.  They have all the pieces to make a deep run but they could also lose in the first round of district.  Wayne plays hard and they seem to have high IQ basketball players but something is off at times.  I still think they are a year away from being top 1-3 in the 12th region.

Fraley does help, but their other guys have played well all season.  Fraley hasn't logged heavy mins since being back.  Zach Anderson and Will Blankenship have played all season.

Agree completely. I don’t want to take anything away from the other kids. They have played well all year. However, a friend who was at the game last night said Fraley started and played starter minutes. So I’m assuming his workload has increased.

No, I don’t think you were taking away from anybody.  I was just making an assessment about their team.  Pulaski and Lincoln are similar to each other where they are big schools with a deep pool, and they usually replace not completely rebuild.  Personally, I think Anderson is the biggest surprise in the region.  He did start, and is slowly getting back into more shape.  Carson is a great passer, so that has certainly helped them.
