Point well taken. However, those guys would have started varsity for a lot schools in their freshman year. Two of them did start last year and were impact players. Besides that they all play summer ball together. I see your point, however I think they maybe under estimated. But whatever the outcome, it should be a good first game for both teams.

 

I agree it will be a good game, that's why I posted it...two good teams right off the bat that could very well be batteling it out in May. I am not disregarding your young players, most of the good ball players I know started varsity as sophmores and had very little problem adjusting. But at this point I can't say they are going to hammer HC, because I have not seen them play.

Not really. Krumps is one of the top coaches in KY high school baseball. Don't think he would play that game. Just threw that dig in there for those who seem to think that the reason one kid is playing over another has to be politics not talent. Holocher is a good ball player, but following AJ at that position is hard to replace. Not sure they have anyone with that level of talent, but you never know. They haven't played the first game yet. Same can be said for Blaz and Tierney. At this point everything is total speculation on our part when posting opinions on any team. Coaches see these kids everyday and see things we don't. Are they ever wrong? Sure they are. The library is full of books on atheletes that were told they just didn't have the right stuff and went on to play in the pro's.

What about Pat VanSant. I know he plays outfield and thought it was center field. Very strong, fast, and athletic kid. BTW, didn't some of these mentioned starters play together the last 5 or 6 years. Amazing how they stayed together and were kinda groomed to play together in high school.

Sorry, but AJ didn't play all that well last year either in the field or at the plate.... While Tierney was a great Basketball and is doing quite well at Transy, the only player that CovCath will miss from the last years team is Blaz (still the sweetest swing I have ever seen in a high school baseball player). As has been posted a couple of times, SS is the big question mark. If I were Coach K, I would go with a upper class man early in the season, while giving Holocher some playing time, and then work him into the starting position. He (Holocher) looks quite a bit bigger and stronger as a sophomore, than at this time last year as a frosh......only time will tell.

if Holocher plays, it is because he earns it and is their best option! ...and, btw....the graduating ss is a wonderful kid; but it won't be a big stretch to replace last years performance...even he would admit that.

One final word in A.J.'s defense. A.J. played his junior and senior year with a torn rotator cuff. He had shoulder surgery in July after playing his last season of summer ball. He played with pain because he loved the game and he loved being a Colonel. He played for the love of the game and not for the negative comments that some of you crazy people would get on here and post. Those who know A.J., know what kind of player A.J. was when he was healthy and at his best. He's also a great kid and was a great role model for the younger players that played below him, just like Quast and Severson were to him. Those are the things that matter. Remember those things about a player and not the errors that they made on the field. BTW, A.J. has graduated so Oldguy you can stop bashing him. I would tell you to find someone new to pick on, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Best of luck to the 2007 Covington Catholic Colonels! AJ's a fine young man and a tremendous athlete. I was unaware of his shoulder issues. That's unfortunate.

Typically Coach Krumps gives the seniors an opportunity to play. If they don't perform as well as they should or up to expectations, then the underclassmen are given a shot. It's been fairly successful thus far, and I hope that he keeps it that way.

I doubt you will see Bleser or Ryan pitch on opening day un less it is a district seeding game, which i don't know that it is.
