12th Region Week 6 Rankings and Review

Boyle has to find some shooters. They got a lot of shot takers but not enough shot makers! Other than Guy Turner I would let every other player shoot all game. I think the younger Driver needs to start over the older Driver. The younger one gets way more done. To beat Boyle just play zone and find Guy Turner.

It shouldn’t be this way. In addition to Turner, Brown is a very capable shooter, and Quisenberry can get hot and has a great mid-range game. Bixler can make a lot happen as well if given the opportunity.

Relative to the 12th, this team has plenty of talent and enough shooting to win their regional games. Shot selection, offensive sets and player rotations continue to plague them. They have 3 returning starters and added two of Danville’s starters. But the reasons they struggle offensively (noted above) are very much the same as last year.

I agree whole heartedly with your first two in the rankings. But I am not sure how we can still put Wayne in the top 3 after a loss to Harlan and blowout by Boyle. I understand that Warren Central has

  • Somerset cruised tonight past SCS 77-56.  They built a running clock, and cruised to the finish.  Somerset will play Danville TH night in the Semifinals.

  • Another interesting score of note— Big win for East Jessamine over Boyle Co. 67-47 tonight!

I heard Cash Baird (Lincoln’s PG) stayed in foul trouble tonight.  Regardless, still a good showing for Golden Lions.

Garrard struggles to score consistently. They played well for two quarters then hit a bit of a lull in the third and Lincoln moved the lead out to about nine. Then they played pretty well again in the fourth. The Golden Lions have very little returning experience from the last couple of years but I've been pleased with their progress and performance in their last two district games against Danville and Lincoln. Hopefully there are a few more wins on the horizon this winter.

Garrard County has played a lot better the past couple of games. 4 close games in a row. With a few different outcomes within those games, this is a .500 team. I wouldn't sleep on GCGL for too long. They've got a good young coach in Coach McRay who has his team starting to figure some things out. Their guys were role players last year, if not JV guys, and now they're expected to take the reigns. It's a process.

I don't see many on their schedule that they can get.  Hopefully, the administration stays patient and are realistic with Coach Mccray.  The same administration ran Coach Young off...

I agree Coach Mccray is a good young coach, but nothing in the last 20 years should make anyone believe that Garrard County as a whole will ever figure it out and be a player in their district or region.  They haven't reached the regional tournament since the realignment, and with growing power DCA with traditional powers Lincoln Co. and Boyle Co. it's arguably the toughest job in the region...

I went down a rabbithole because I was curious about how dominate Lincoln Co. has been against Garrard Co. since realignment of districts in 2006.  The teams have met 45 times, and Lincoln Co. has won 42 of them.  Most recent win for GC was in Feb. of 2018... Speaks to how successful of a program Lincoln Co. has had in the district.

Lincoln's problem, as stated in the review, at least in my opinion, is there appears to be no one ready yet to come off the bench and fill the roles the top 5 have. Fouls and/or injury could devastate them.

With that district, I think DCA is going to get the 1 and Garrard the 5. Danville would be my 4 if I had to guess today leaving Boyle and Lincoln in that 2/3 game. The first edition of this year's Boyle-Lincoln series happens Friday at Boyle and man am I interested to see what happens.

I honestly have no clue what to expect.  Stylistically, I like Boyle's potential ability to press up and get after Lincoln in the full court.  If history has told us anything, this game is generally tight and low scoring!

Lincoln, DCA and Boyle definitely play the toughest schedule in the 12th region.  Lincoln plays 5 of the top 25 while DCA and Boyle play 4 of the top 25.  We shall see how their strength of schedule helps them down the stretch.

I’m excited to see the two styles clash. One would expect Lincoln to sit in the zone and force Boyle to shoot the 3. And the others would expect Boyle to get up and pressure the freshman PG with their athletes.

Agree, should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Danville Christian and Somerset both cruise in their semifinals matchup, and will meet tomorrow for the All A Crown @ 7:30 in Burgin!

Look forward to seeing how this one turns out. The 2 top teams in the region at this point in the season.

Big games across the region tonight! DCA/Somerset, Lincoln/Boyle, Pulaski/Southwestern, Mercer/West Jessamine, and then Wayne/McCreary.

I was just about to say this.  This is a fun time of the year with big games on the slate tonight.
