Dayton will go to play the Mustangs in the first round of the playoffs next Saturday at 7 pm. I believe that this is a pretty even game and I could see either team winning. I look forward to going, will be my first time at Brossart’s stadium. I’ve heard nothing but good about it from others who have been there. Good luck to both teams.

Maxpreps has this listed for Saturday which I thought was odd. If anyone hears differently, please update.

  • I agree, can see Dayton winning this. Dayton has struggled this season in some games but they are better than some may think with their record.

  • Should be at the game, I’ll provide some updates.

The KHSAA says the game is Friday and I am not sure why MaxPreps is even in the discussion.

Brossart has owned this series in recent years. They also have a slightly higher RPI this season, 0.52259 compared to Dayton's 0.48807, and they're playing at home to boot. The Mustangs are definitely in a little bit of a down-cycle this season, though, and both teams have been a struggled to be consistent this year.

Brossart's D is also giving up twice as many rushing yards as they are passing yards, and Dayton is definitely a rushing team, with 80% of their offensive yards and touchdowns, both, earned on the ground. Brossart's loss to Ludlow obviously stands out, too, although you could argue that Ludlow was quite possibly still trying to find their legs under new head coach Woody McMillen. Still, Dayton was able to shut down Ludlow's strong run game pretty effectively, and with Brossart also being a somewhat run-heavy offense (63% run), that could spell trouble for the Mustangs.

This one has some potential to be an upset in Dayton's favor. The Greendevils may well be due this year.
