Highlands vs. Notre Dame Predictions/Updates

The Most Dramatic event in the 9th Region Girls Tournament, you won't want to miss this

Well we are at the day that 2 schools probably had circled on their calendar.  The only question this whole season was, will it be in the Regional Semifinals or the Region Finals.  The last 5 times it has been in the Championship game.  You have to go back to 2015 when it wasn't.

The first matchup this season at Lex Cath the Birds took advantage early and often taking care of business and coming away with a nice 4-1 win.  The second game the originally scheduled regular season matchup at Tower Park was more of a physical battle where NDA capitalized on an unmarked back post attacker on a corner kick that got the Pandas on the board early.  The Birds finally was able to equal the score with a Franny Smith goal but after that it was just a physical, card after card, yellows and a red long 80 minute game with no winner coming out of it.

Here is the tale of the tape:

Notre Dame:  Coached by Brian Woeste in his 1st year has had a nice record of 17-3-2.  Their best win has got to be the 3-0 win way back on Aug 14th against the current #1 ranked team Lex Catholic. They really don't have a bad loss on their resume.

Team stats:  They are led by Jr Kate Lenihan who has a team high 10 goals.  Sr Hannah Knapke leads the team in assists with 7. The team totally has 57 goals.  The defense has surrendered 22 goals, the main goalkeeper seeing most the action is SR Hannah Renaker.  This isn't the high powered offense and stingy defense from 2 years ago but they get the job done day in and day out.

Highlands:  Coached by Chris Norris (in his 3rd season at the helm) has a record of 17-2-3.  Their best win I have to say is the 4-1 win over these Pandas at the Lex Cath Invitational.  It might have been the most complete game of the year against a top notch opponent.  Just like NDA I don't think Highlands really has a bad loss on their resume.

Team stats:  These are a little gaudy, offensively the team is led by 2 Seniors with (Dayton commit) Laney Smith with 26 goals/19 assits and (Centre commit) Claire Cavacini with 25 goals.  Also, up their contributing is (DePaul commit) Kate Jamie with 10 goals/9assists.  In total, the Birds offense has found the back of the net a whopping 92 times.  The defense is just a little more stingy than the Pandas giving up 19 goals all year.

Team roster:  NDA currently has 7 seniors on the roster playing.  Whereas, Highlands has a huge bubble of 13 Seniors.  Highlands also has 10 of the 11 starters that returned from last years Regional Championship team.

Well we have 8 hours and 13 minutes till kickoff.  Frank's up for it..... Are you???
