First time in a long time: How do the Panthers and Pirates respond after taking Ls last week? The last chapter in the rivalry that saw both coming off a loss was all the way back in 1947. Philip Haywood was only in his second season leading the Pirates…. Kidding, of course. Though it seems like the ageless legend has been at it that long. His shorthanded squad put up a valiant effort against Southwestern last week, battling back from an early hole before falling by a score.

Pikeville doesn't stumble often against 1A competition, but Raceland knocked them off their perch in one of the more entertaining 7-6 games you'll ever see. Consequently, someone other than the Panthers will occupy #1 in BGP's 1A rankings for the first time since 2018. How temporary their displacement lasts ultimately depends on what happens in November and December. In the interim, there's no time to dwell, with bragging rights and a Pike County championship on the line on 'Pond Creek'.

I think Pikeville is 2 and 2 also.  Losses to LCA and Raceland.   Injuries are always a factor, it is just part of the game.  If both teams are healthy it could be a very close game with either team pulling it out.  Belfry’s offensive line is pretty impressive even with the young man that is out with an injured knee.  Not sure of his status.   Belfry will be hard to handle in AAA and Pikeville will be there as well in A.  Belfry is very young, with that being said, lookout AAA for the next couple of years

Tonight should be the best game between these two in a couple of years. No clear favorite. Pikeville had the edge in the trenches the last two meetings. I think that position battle will be pretty even tonight. Belfry may have a little more speed at the skill positions. Give me the Pirates at home by a touchdown or less.

Even though Pikeville has lost their last two I still think they're a favorite here. Belfry's QB is still out. I'll take Panthers by 17.
