1. Pikeville vs. 5A Pulaski County (at Corbin)

2. Raceland at 4A #5 Ashland 

3. Campbellsville vs. 2A Owen County (8/19)

4. Kentucky Country Day at 5A Atherton

5. Middlesboro vs. 4A Harlan County (8/19)

6. Newport Central Catholic at 3A #6 Lloyd Memorial (8/17)

7. Sayre at #10 Covington Holy Cross

8. Hazard at 2A Martin County

9. Louisville Holy Cross vs. 5A North Bullitt

10. Covington Holy Cross vs. #7 Sayre

Class 1A has some solid opening season matchups. Looks as if only 1-2 have games they should win.

Covington Holy Cross in the top 10? I know they are now in 1A, but didn’t they only win 2 games last year? I personally have them ranked as the third best team in their district entering this season behind Brossart and Ludlow.  Is there something I am missing? Is it because they are now 1A? Is most of the team back from last year? Any new transfers in? Didn’t one of their best players in Brooks transfer? Just curious what I missed for why they are ranked in the top 10 to start? Which I am truly asking, because I haven’t read up much on them this year yet and was surprised to see this for a team that won 2 games last year. So I’m just wondering why others view them as the favorite in their district and a top 10 team based off this.

HC has lots of new speed and a huge athletic line (with depth).  They will be able to get multiple looks offensively with their rotation.  Of course, they are very young and everything is a bit unknown until the games are played.

The move to 1A helps. Nine returning starters on defense. The Herald also had them receiving votes in their Top 10.

Thank you both. I was just curious because I hadn’t read much on them this year. I just knew they only won 2 games last year, and lost to both Brossart and Ludlow last year that are in their district this year.
