Greenup County, coming off one the best seasons in school history will travel across the river to take on Coal Grove, OH.  The Musketeers return their, do everything player, Tyson Sammons.   In 2022 Sammons threw for 1,400 yards, rushed for 1,700 yards and even caught a pass for 19 yards.  And on defense, he tallied 49 total tackles. Second leading rusher, Ike Henderson, will be behind Sammons for another season.  Look for Drew Boggs to be the early target for Sammons.

Who will win this matchup?  What are you thought about Greenup County in week one?

I expect Greenup to stick to the basics in this match-up until they develop a more well rounder approach for the season. But they win doing what they do best.

A heavy dose of Sammons and Henderson, I take it? Any idea how the offensive line looks? I think they lost some good ones from last year.

Should be a tough, competitive game from both sides.

They did lose a few from the OL, but have found some nice replacements.  Depth at the position is a concern though.  May be their Achilles heal.

Yea, no rushing by Sammons in the scrimmages, but I expect him and Henderson to stretch their legs this week.

In topical Southern Ohio fashion, Coal Grove refused to trade film and talked their scrimmage opponents into not giving film to anyone. But, as always, film is available.

Coal Grove is a double tight Wing-T offense. But, they do occasionally go with trips and throw the ball some. Their offense looks to be much ahead of their defense. I expect Greenup’s offense to have success on the ground and to not throw the ball much until late.  I don’t think Coal Grove’s offense will be able to play from behind well.

I wouldn't schedule them again.

To be honest, I don’t know why anyone does. This is common and well known about. That and they commonly bait players late in the game to make them ineligible the following week.

Sounds like the OHSAA needs an investigator at their games.

My experience is, the OHSAA doesn’t know where southern Ohio is.

The saving grace with playing Coal Grove is:  they normally are a fundamentally sound team that plays quality football and makes for good completion.

Scoreless after 1Q. Greenup closing in on CG's red zone when play resumes.
