I will also note I believe 7v7s are great, any and all reps help each player and team. But I don’t understand the hype surrounding winning one of these events when you don’t have any lineman. Heard tons of “oh I thought this was football. This is soft.” and coaches going at the refs. If you wanna know why no one wants to ref, look no further. I think the excitement comes from anytime you are competing with your team against other teams the goal of it is to win. Sure hanging your hat on winning these things is wild, but it’s a whole lot more fun to win them than it is lose them.

I never saw coaches going at refs, but the goal is to build confidence and cohesion for offensive and defensive skill position groups. If you're a coach you want to see who's going to compete and make plays. There were a lot of great teams there this weekend, with some awesome athletes all over the place. In all Highlands played 9 games. Went 6-3. Loses to LCA and Male in pool play and wins over Apollo, Grant County, Betsy Lane, Somerset, North Hardin (who has a stud receiver) Ironton, Ohio, before losing to Boyle in final 4 round. The Birds JV went 3-0 against other JV teams and beat a Frederick Douglass JV team and lost a close one to Ryle's Varsity in bracket play. Hopefully all teams got in some great work, got better as a team and kept everyone healthy. 2

What hype? Other than a few people on this message board, I could barely find anything about the event. Over 80 teams from all 6 divisions competed. Most of the reigning state champs and runner-ups were there. Its a great event to watch the state’s top skill talent up close. I’m also pretty sure everyone attending understands the difference between 7v7 and real football. Congrats to Boyle County to winning and tough tournament. Well deserved! 4
