DeSales 52 Evangel Christian 48 (6th Region Semifinals)

Featured Replies

DeSales grabs an early lead and held on to win 52 - 48 in spite of a furious rally and bold effort from Evangel.  The Colts move on to face J-Town in the Final, after J-Town upset Butler 52-49 in the earlier game.

DeSales would have been my preseason pick from the 6th, but they were inconsistent through the year. Looks like they are putting it together at the right time!

This is a pretty large upset isn't it?

This is a pretty large upset isn't it?  Yes, I'd say so!  Evangel has great size and quickness, but DeSales has a hard-nosed bunch of guys. No individual is a great candidate for "Mr. Basketball", but when they play together they can really play!  I just hope they can keep that same focused hard-nosed attitude on Monday against J-Town.  Some local "sports writers" have written off DeSales all season long.  I hope our guys use that as motivation for Monday's game.

Their inconsistency has bothered me too, but I think they are getting themselves more focused lately.  If so, they are very capable! I like to see it when they play with a "chip on their shoulder".

Can I get some lottery numbers from ya this week? DeSales was in a rebuilding mode this season after a 14-14 record in 2021-22. Western returned all five starters from a 23-5 squad so DeSales wasn't even a favorite to win the 22nd District much less the region. Your prediction would have been very bold.

Jones, DeSales returned a good young group who as usual played an extremely tough schedule. Western probably lost their best player to a prep school but I’m with you that they wouldn’t have been my first choice to win the region.

Their Coach does not shy away from competition and has had this team on an uptick heading to the Tourney. I wish more of the better teams around town would do this (challenging schedules) but it is not to be.

Monday should be a great game with the defending champ (Jtown) who has a VERY veteran group vs a battle tested group in DeSales.

Yessir, I've been saying similar things all season in the regional reviews. DeSales and Butler really challenged themselves this season, probably more than any other teams in the region. It paid off for DeSales, but didn't for Butler. And here I thought it would be the other way around with Butler going farther than DeSales. A real big thumbs up for DeSales and its coaching staff, who obviously believe in their players or they wouldn't throw so many good teams at them. A bigger thumbs up for Jeffersontown. Few outside JTown thought the Chargers would get this far in defense of their crown.

You must be feelin' pretty good for a true diehard. Congrats. Let's see what they can do now with this opportunity.

I just scrolled through some KHSAA past schedules for your men. DeSales and JTown haven't played since 2014!

35 Jefferson County schools, public and private, in the 6th and 7th Regions.

The last regular season Massey Ratings "Strength of Schedule" ~ 9 of the top 20, 16 of the top 40, and 21 of the top 100.

Who should be playing a more challenging schedule?

I'm not really familiar with the Massey Ratings. Do you consider them to be a reliable predictor of a team's ability? Their "Rating" of the top 10 teams seems to me to be pretty accurate.

Massey is normally well thought of.

The one above is sorted by SoS. What this shows is that there are a lot of good teams in Jefferson County as many play each other throughout the year.
