This weeks 8th Region game of the week is WV vs. GC. This will be a perfect little preview as to the fight we are going to see in just a few short weeks for an appearance in the regional tournament. 

This game does not mean anything to either team, as they are already locked in to play each other in the first round of the district tournament, I guess the only thing on the line is what color jersey you will be wearing in that matchup lol. 

These are 2 completely different playstyles. Grant County is a team that relies on the paint heavily to score a majority of their points, and will sit down and guard you well the whole game. Walton-Verona is full of shooters, they are looking for quick possessions so that they can attempt as many shots as possible. They do not guard the greatest, giving up almost 90 points in all 3 of their last games this season. 

Grant County is coming off a successful weekend, playing the #1 team in the region and #3 team in the state North Oldham to the final buzzer on Friday. The very next day they knocked off #6 Great Crossing for their biggest win of the season. 

Walton-Verona is coming in off a tough loss to Holy Cross (Covington), allowing 98 points (58 of them being from Jacob Meyer) and losing by 17. Before this game they knocked off a solid Bracken County squad while scoring 95 points. 

I am excited to see the play-styles collide, and interested to see what all we are looking forward to in the district tournament.

Me too, WV being at home makes me want to take the bearcats, but Grant is the better team IMO.

I’m thinking WV because they are at home, GC can’t improve their seeding and they are on an emotional high. Probably would not hurt to rest some guys at GC too.

Grant by double digits.  Hammonds and Wills with big games.  Grants defense should be the difference in this game.  Grant is not a slow team either.    I don’t think either team shows much.

10-8 Grant after 1

Walton extremely cold to start and Dixon with two fouls. 

24-22 Grant at the half. 
 

unfortunate situation right before halftime Krohman came down on a foot and looked to hurt his ankle. Also two fouls on Dixon who basically did not play the whole first half and two fouls on Gutman who didn’t play the second quarter.
