9th region re-visited at the midway point

Featured Replies

Any thoughts on teams at the approximate mid-point of the season?

Here's mine:

Conner: Sleeper for a major player come playoff time? Quietly playing some good ball.

Boone Co.: Very talented but not quite jelled all the way yet. One of the obvious region favorites and maybe a state threat if it ever all comes together.

Highlands: Maybe a year or two away but maybe able knock off somebody on a given night in the regional.

Notre Dame: Maybe on a mission this year but they will have to peak at the right time this year.

NewCath: Best effort might be in loss to Sacred Heart. Could make a run in the All-A, but might need a good draw in district/region playoffs.

Ludlow: Nice record but schedule hurts greatly. Might have to knock off Dixie to get a seed to allow them to get out of the district.

Holmes: Couple of good losses to Boone Co. and Simon Kenton keep them in consideration.

You do know the district Ludlow is in is a blind draw right...So I dont know what you mean when you said they will need to beat Dixie to get a seed to allow them to get out of district. I mean IMO Ludlow might just be the best team in the district right now. They only lost by 2 to Lloyd earlier in the year, and then just beat Villa by 14, and they play Dixie this week I believe. So IMO Ludlow has as good of a chance if not better than the other teams to get out of the district, because they already have shown what they could do against these teams and can beat them...

If I were to call a sleeper, I'd go with Holmes. The 34th will play out in the next two weeks as Dixie is at Ludlow and Lloyd.

No I did not know that. Thought the 36th was the only draw district. If Ludlow can win the district they might be able to get a good draw in the region if the 36th draw comes up stacked.

Let's say these 3 teams wind up runner-up in their district: Conner, Holmes and Highlands. Assuming Ludlow wins their district, can Ludlow beat these teams? I haven't seen Ludlow play, so I am just asking!

IMO, right now NDA/Boone are at least 10 pts better than the rest of the region after what I witnessed last night. Depending on the regional draw, they will play again in the final. If they would have to play each other in the semi's, maybe, just maybe they could have a major let down for the final but I doubt it. We will have to wait and see.

I agree right now NDA/Boone are definitely the two best teams by far right now. And to answer your question I believe Ludlow could beat Highlands or Conner in what would be good games, and I think they could compete pretty good against Holmes but that would be harder game to win IMO...

Futurecoach, you do understand that the girls region is played this year at Conner and Conner is the one teams that I think and (so do many) could beat either NDA or Boone on a given night. Kat O'neal is one tough player and somone that I doubt Ludlow has seen (based on your schedule) as good. No disrepect, but Cooner is one team that you won't beat, if you make it to the Region....

I must admit I didn't know that the region is at conner this year, so that would make some difference. But I would disagree with you on that you said Ludlow hasn't seen any girl as good as O'neal. No doubt she is a good player, but IMO she is not as good as the player who I cant think of her name right now but she plays for Carroll County and is going to WKU on a bball scholarship I believe. And Ludlow played them in the finals of a tournament, so I do think Ludlow has seen a player as good as her if not better..But as I said earlier with the region being played at Conner that gives Conner the edge then...

Right now? So what are you trying to say that by regional time there will be some other teams capable of beating NDA/Boone.

Cat is a great player but it will take an entire team, not just one player to beat NDA/Boone.

No that is not what I was trying to say at all. If I was saying that I would have mentioned a team that I would have thought could be with them by the end of the season. I just say right now because you never know one of their best players on one of the teams could maybe get hurt before region time and that could effect things if that were to happen. But if something like that then yeah at the end of the year it still will be just them two teams as the two best..You definitely read way to much into what I said in that post...

I just read what I read and take the meaning of the words for what they are. You said "right now" twice in one sentence so I took that to mean at the end of the yr there would be other teams closing in, which is very possible. There will be teams improve but so will NDA/Boone.

It wasn't any big deal just wanted to know who you thought will even be close w/the top two come tourney time.

First of all the Newport/Dayton winner COULD be the 36th runner-up if Belleveue, Highlands, and NCC all draw in the same bracket. And yes Ludlow could beat the winner of that game in the region and be in the final 4.

Second, yes there are teams that can beat Boone Co and Notre Dame in the region tourney. While those two are the clear favorites NCC, Conner (at home), Holmes, and Highlands would all have a chance depending on the draw and the match-ups.

Last years Regional final was not a basketball clinic by any means. And basically by the time the final comes teams teams are exhausted and tight so upsets do happen.

I do believe the favorites are and should be ND/BC. Their tough schedules should help them come tournament time. With that being said I also believe Conner is playing the best basketball right now. With O'neil and Long you just may have the best backcourt in the 9th. I believe Conner would certainly have to bring their "A" game but they did beat Henry Clay by 10 who beat Boone by 4.

I can only imagine that if the players who live in the Conner district (2 or 3 who play for ND and the players who moved to the BC district BC starting guard how good they would be now)

Good luck to all, and i certainly wouldn't count out NCC

WOW.... Coach K....apparently the fact that people move to different school districts is a fact that has traumatized you for life. These girls are all happy playing where they are playing (isn't that what it is all about?) and it is all legit....so stop bringing it up.

Actually since I know a lot of the girls on the current Conner team now and probably more who have quit over the last two years or so and still attend Conner, I would have to agree with ShortDad. The young ladies and their parents who play at different school now (NDA, BCHS, and HHS) are all quite happy.......Let it be......
