Mason County 33 Rockcastle County 0

Final from Maysville. A few observations.

A. Slow start for the heavily favored Royals, sleepwalking through their first few possessions. Led just 8-0 late in the first half until converting a fourth-and-twenty something on what looked like a missed assignment to go up two scores at the break.   A nine yard kickoff gave Mason field position to start the second half and they scored 41 seconds later.  Not much doubt about the outcome after that.

2. Rockcastle came to play, but just too much speed at the skill positions for them to handle. Even though they had their qb back in the lineup for this one, Coach Larkey was understandably trying to keep the Royals off the field with the running game.  I’ve probably never seen a game where (on both sides) there were so many more fourth down attempts than punts.

D. Mason County just might get bounced next week if they don’t clean up a few things.  Must start faster and (especially) get the place-kicking fixed.  Way too many muffed exchanges that will come back to bite them in a close game.

Peerless Papa won’t be at the next game (ironically, at a concert at Renfro Valley in Rockcastle County).  Perhaps an Estill County trueheart will be available to keep BGP Nation up to date on the game.

Estill will certainly be the biggest task the Royals have faced this season. A slow start will not serve us well for certain. I didn't get to see this one, as the Twin Dawgs were part of the Jazz Band that performed at the Veteran's celebration.  We will be there en force on Friday!

I doubt the biggest task. Beat Greenup County, Tates Creek, and Boyd County. A big game, but no way the best opponent.

Good!  That makes me feel better!!

Question. Just how good is Mason county? I have family in Estill and I’m considering going to the game.

Good enough to squeak by the decent teams on their schedule.  Team speed is their strong suit.
