As I alluded to just above, I think coming off the tough loss to Mayfield I would expect a huge effort tonight by PT.  That may not be enough, but I expect to see their all.

Physically they can hang with anybody they play.  They roughed up Mayfield pretty good.

I agree, that is a team full of young men!

This is the last of my preseason picks for top games. I'm still not sure what to make of South Warren. Two games against out of state teams and a bye week makes it hard to get a handle on a team that was nearly stripped of everything after last year. It's been a month since they embarrassed Highlands, and that was the season opener. Sometimes you can't read much into Week 1 games. I really don't know what to expect here, other than great effort from both sides. You always get that from a Brandon Smith team, and Sean Thompson may be instilling that same week to week mental toughness in his program, as well.

I'm hoping for the result I called for back in early August. If I had to lean one way or the other, I'll take the Spartans in a game that's up for grabs in the fourth quarter. The SW coaches are an elite staff. Still way too early to say that about PT.

They've met twice before, splitting a home and home in 2013/2014. The Spartans have claimed three state titles and become one of the state's sturdiest programs since then. Tilghman enters 2022 as a 3A favorite, while question marks abound for South Warren, following heavy graduation losses from last year's championship squad. With the Blue Tornado trending up and the Spartans potentially taking a step backwards this year, the two could meet in the middle for an instant classic.

 

I haven't seen our radio crew sitting with a table in the bleachers until tonight. I couldn't concentrate if it were me.
