Wasn't welcoming them back with open arms one of the issues this year.

 

In the other thread on Marvin's comments, he makes the statement that the PLAYERS wanted him to be more of a HARDBUTT. He said he fined this year and $$$$ did not deter him. Next year, he will go BACK to the hardbutt he was the first years and less like he was this year. And implied that the PLAYERS wanted the discipline, wanted him like that.

And????????????? Marvin knew his defense (especially his linebacker) weren't very good when they lost Thurman and Pollack. If he didn't than he should stop coaching football.

Not understanding your point with this post. If he knows Thurman is this important to his team, it would seem more likely he would want him back. And yet he doesn't. He has given Henry, chance after chance after chance after chance.

 

And he cuts Odell loose. Makes you wonder if there is not more to the story than we know.

 

He gives his #3 receiver a multitude of chances.

 

Won't give his defensive playmaker and arguably most important defensive player a 3rd chance.

On the defensive side of the ball, I 100% agree with you. Missing him was a huge, huge issue.

 

I do think there was also offensive issues that led to the missing of the playoffs. While he hold a large share of blame, I am not positive he should hold it all.

NOT SAYING I AGREE WITH THIS MINDSET BUT.....

 

Marvin may believe that Thurman is not presently capable of overcoming his addiction problems. It is not as simple as simply maturing to overcome an addiction. He may feel that Odell is not capable of overcoming it and thus will lead other younger players down the same route.

 

Marvin may believe that Henry's issues are for the most part immaturity that he could overcome within a 1/2 season as he now realizes that his chances are over. He may believe that Henry is becoming mature and more of a man instead of a young immature man that thinks those things are fun. He may see a quicker and easier route for Henry and believes he is taking that route.

 

If it is an addiction, Thurman will NEVER be cured and will always carry that weight on his shoulders.

 

If it is an immaturity, Henry could be over it as I type this and never have another issue or be another problem for Lewis.

Chris Henry didn't get suspended for an entire year. That's a big deal, much bigger than anything CH did. CH missed 2(3 cause Marvin) games and that really hurt the team, but O'Dell was a week away from returning after missing 4 games (and was going to be welcome back with open arms) then got a DUI and missed the remaining games. Even if he's on Meth, Cocaine, Heroin, or Crack he's had enough time to rehab. Plus he's still subjected to NFL drug tests, which if he was failing them we'd hear about it.

And Marvin was right to suspend/hold him out for that game. He still missed it and I am sure that Marvin felt that he had no other choice.

Last year Thurman was labeled a "Marvin Lewis" guy. We didn't know how true that was. That huge void on the team was Odell Thurman's fault more than it was anyone elses. That's pretty significant to me.

I am agreeing with you that Odell's absence was huge.

 

I am agreeing with you that Odell is so much what this team needs.

 

I am agreeing with you that Odell is the type of players, on the field, that Marvin wants and desires.

 

And yet, Marvin is not considering, at least publically of bringing him back. Won't even talk about him. If it is simply because he is mad at Odell for getting suspended, when he is dealing with an addiction, that is childish of Marvin and he is putting his feelings in front of the team's desires.

 

Now if it is that he thinks that he will be more of a detriment for some reason to this team than the stupidity of Henry, than that is different.
