The Big Trains pulled out a thriller with a 30 ft 3 pointer by sub Donnie Davidson at the buzzer. Davidson only played 2 minutes in the entire game, but came up huge when it counted. Corey Pelle had 39 points for Silver Grove, as the Trains finished 3rd out of 16 in a very competitive Berea Tournament. Pelle is the most underrated player in the state...PERIOD. He will make some college very happy.

I have been saying that about Pelle all year. People think that because he plays at Silver Grove that he would not be that good anywhere else. But the truth is he would be the best player on almost any team in NKY.

He really is the man. He has seen every different defense there is and still manages to get his 30. The thing everyone overlooks is his ability to play defense himself. A ton of his points come from steals he created.

The Estill Kids fought just as hard as the Silver Grove Kids, probably harder seeing as their top two scorers didn't play in the fourth. You are being very insensitive to kids who played their hearts out. Nobody is crying and facts are facts. Both teams played hard and deserved to win. When the :00 should have hit and the buzzer should have sounded Estill was ahead 62-61. Silver Grove got 2 seconds extra and a kid hit a great shot. It was not Silver Grove's fault, but neither was it Estill's. It was a bad situation that should have been addressed by the officials but wasn't.

But the truth is he would be the best player on almost any team in NKY.

There are many nights when the Trains might not be the best team on the floor BUT it is a rare occasion when Corey Pelle is not the best player on the floor.

 

He could start and be a major contributor for any of us.

 

He might have to buy into the "be willing to give up a little of who you are for what we can become together" theory on a more complete team, but he would be a major, major contributor on any team for which he played.

 

I sometimes come close to violating that "not coveting thy neighbors goods" commandment, when thinking of how awesome it would be having Pelle in the lineup with Jimmy, Josh, Nate, Troy, Bryan, Kyle, Luke, and Matt.

I had the honor of coaching Corey this past summer with Shining Star Sports. He played on a team with a great deal of talent (Hill, Hester, Kiernan, Jacobs, Hurd, Henderson, Bray, etc..) and had no problem sharing the basketball. He is an amazing competitor with the ability to beat you in so many ways. He may be the best defender off of the ball that I have ever seen. A lot of people read about his ability to score, but he is a difference maker on the defensive end as well.

 

I hope that no one thinks that Corey is a selfish player because that is not the case. He understands the game of basketball and does whatever it takes to win.

 

If I had to rank the top players in Northern Kentucky there is no doubt that he is among the top three.

 

Hopefully Corey will get an opportunity to play at the next level.
