I was a huge baseball fan from the early 1960s to 1994. There were a group of us in my southeast Kentucky county that would make the trek to the Queen City quite a few times each year to see the Reds. But after the strike in 1994 cancelled the World Series (and most likely cost a talent loaded Montreal Expos a WS title) I lost all interest in MLB. The only player on the Reds team that I can name at this time is Votto, and that’s because he has been there what seems like 20 years. 
I’ve  noticed at our golf course clubhouse there are a few who still watch some of the Reds games but it’s nothing like in the past. I did go to one Reds game the year they opened their new facility just to see what it looked like. The times sure have changed from the days when my friends and I used to travel to Cincy to watch games. Back then a ticket was a reasonable price. I paid $57 for a ticket that day, and I bought a bag of peanuts and a coke that cost $9.50 ?.

So, my MLB baseball watching days is a distant memory of past games, back before the greed and outrageous salaries that only a few of the wealthiest teams can afford, destroyed the game. 

 

If you want to go see a professional sports team play, the MLB experience is still the cheapest, and in some instances, by a lot.  From what I've been able to see for the big four, here's what a family of four could expect to spend at a game in 2021...

NFL:  $568.18

NHL:  exact number unknown, but all sites indicated it to be significantly higher than NBA/MLB

NBA: $290.12

MLB: $253

This is just where we're at these days.  Any professional sport is expensive to see in person.  MLB is suffering, but it's not because it simply outpriced the rest of the market.

I can get a really good seat at GABP for about $40 - $50.  Parking is about $10.  For food and drinks (if I'm by myself) is maybe $20 - $30 (I don't drink alcohol, so I save some there.). At max, I'm spending $90.  To go to a Bengals game and sit in a decent seat, I'm paying at least $90 for the ticket alone.
