Newport 48 Bishop Brossart 36

Featured Replies

The host Wildcats knock off the Mustangs by 12 in Newport's first game of the season (Brossart opened with a win over Villa).

Is this what we'd have expected last night, the score surprised me a little, but not sure it should have.  I'm sure @Mustangcan educate us more on the Mustangs and their expectations.

Newport was led by Taylen Kinney with 15 and Evan Snapp with 10.

Newport was able to grind out a win.  Impressed with their ability to function in a slow half court setting.

Newport is young.  Their roster consists of five seniors, a Junior, a Sophomore five freshmen and a pair of blue-chip 8th Graders.

The leading scorer way Taylen Kinney who scored 15 points.  He is an 8th grader.  Evan Snapp scored the first 7 points of the game, which we answered with a 6 point run of our own.  The score at halftime was 18-15 in favor of Newport.  The Cats caught fire in the third period, putting up 18 to our 8 and went on to win by 12.  Snapp finished out the night with 10 points.

Our usual suspects were our leading scorers - Mason Sepate with 13 and David Govan with 11.

Holding Newport to 48 was creditable, but we are going to have to find some scoring from our guard corps to be contentious in the long haul.

We go to Ludlow Friday night.  Ludlow dropped 16 3-pointers on Pendleton County, so this could be another challenge for us to match their scoring ability.

I saw the hi-lights.  It looks like Kinney is going to be a player.   Nice handles and a smooth stroke.
