Valiant effort by the Paris Greyhounds who would not go away.  Down 14-6 with under two minutes to play in the game, Paris senior Chase Puckett, playing an upback fielded a hot grounder kick-off and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown, closing the gap to two.

On the ensuing two-point conversion attempt, Puckett completed a pass, that appeared to be a sure thing, when Evan Orth, like an apparition, broadsided the receiver and preserved the Mustangs 14-12 lead which would be the final score.

Early on, Brossart had multiple opportunities, picking off a pair of Puckett aerials and found ourselves first and goal from the 8 yard line, but failed to punch it in. The two teams remained tied at the half.

Paris kicked off to the Mustangs to start the second half, and Jacob Leicht orchestrated a 66 yard drive, culminged with a 10 yard touchdown pass to Mason Meyer, giving the home team a 7-0 lead when Dewey Schwarz cashed in on the PAT.

Not to be outdone, Paris scored early in the fourth quarter on a 66 yard catch and run by Gabriel Arnett, but failed on the two point conversion.

The Mustangs appeared to put this one on ice with 2:45 remaining in the game, when Leicht found Meyer open in the end zone for the second time on the night, and when Schwartz split the upright, we led 14-6, when the earlier described drama ensued.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 11-0 and will host the Nicholas County Blue Jackets in the Class 1A, District 5 district championship game next Friday night in Alexandria..

cousins.

Eugene "Puck" Puckett came up early, and shared in some Four Mile Pig dry rub wings, and sat in the adjacent booth in the press box during the game.  He is a great friend, and source of all things 10th Region.
