Great Crossing is coming into this Friday's game at "The Farm" vs. Frederick Douglass enjoying their best season in their brief history at 6-1 and 1-1 in district play. They have made great strides in this their 3rd season. Their only loss this season came vs. cross-town rival Scott Co. 14-6 two weeks ago. This will mark the 4th time the Warhawks have played the Broncos. The previous 3 have not turned out very well. They are 0-3 all-time vs. Douglass by scores of 50-0, 50-0 in 2019, and 62-21 in the first round of the playoffs last season.

Douglass has not played since defeating Scott Co. 35-0 back on Sept. 24. Frederick Douglass comes into the game at 7-0 and 2-0 in district play. This should be a measuring stick to see Great Crossing's growth as a program this is will be by far the best team that have played to date this season. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm and can be seen on the NFHS Network.

Homecoming for the Broncos means the band, a live dj, tons of students and vertical downfield passing!

Kudos to the strides Great Crossing has made in 3 years, but first and foremost their offense will be eaten alive by Douglass' defensive front. Watching the Warhawks vs TTUN showed that under duress, GC is going to look for Kalib Perry. But the QB isn't going to have the time to toss it to him! GC throwing screens won't worry FD, their corners are more than capable of squashing short routes, so it's only a matter of time before a panicked pass intended for Perry ends up in either Ty Bryant or Isaiah Kenney's hands.

He is a terrific athlete, and very dependable and capable! But it is similar to Franklin Co and Kaden Moorman, they don't have a reliable plan B.  If ever there was a time for someone else to step up for the Warhawks, it is this Friday.

Mark my words, GC is not gaining over 50 yards rushing. Those nasty DLs are swarming any handoff, and likewise are in the QBs face quickly on pass plays.

When it counted in the 3rd and 4th quarter against TTUN, Great Crossing's OL did poorly IMO. The QB was constantly rushed, and flushed out of the pocket while he was looking for a double teamed Perry.

The defensive effort will give the Douglass offense enough cushion to be a bit liberal with the passing attack. I expect an emphasis on "Cornett to Key!" as Key is slated to announce his college commitment in a week or two, as well as an effort to correct the errant throws Cornett attempted to Key against TTUN.

I especially want to see what Oryend Fisher accomplishes against Douglass. I would think the first quarter they avoid his side, to reduce any type of positive plays for the GC defense. But! While I know a college nutrition and fitness regimen will have him in top form, I think he is too light to deal with Douglass' tackles. Not that they are huge this year, but they have great technique. I don't know of anyone else on their defense who will make much of an impact, other than Perry of course. I expect he will be GC's leading tackler for this game.

Nonetheless, there will be some great plays made on both sides of the ball, but no doubt Douglass will have their way. Coach Bowling has the Warhawks on their way, but they aren't ready for the Broncos. During last year's 21-62 playoff rout, the Warhawks never posed a threat, but it was exciting to see their sideline so elated when they got each score against FD. They may not have much to celebrate in this game though, because this Bronco defense is really high level!

50-14 Douglass

Douglass is gonna roll Great Crossing.  There are plenty of post game meal options in & around the farm, so fans may want to go ahead with thinking about where they are gonna eat after the game, because this one might end quickly.
