Is there a racism problem at Madison Southern High School?

Recommended Posts

The Herald-Leader just ran a story on the second lawsuit filed against Madison Southern High School within one calendar year alleging racism and a racially hostile environment towards students in the school.

The suit reported on today was initially filed with the state in March, but has already been moved into federal court. It claims that a black student's rights were violated when he was subjected to systematic harassment, bullying and racial slurs while at the school and participating in the school's athletic programs. The suit also alleges that the school administrators - including Madison County Schools superintendent David Gilliam, and Brandon Watkins who served as principal at Madison Southern from 2015-16 through 2019-20 - failed to respond at all to requests from the student's parents to meet with them or to discuss the ongoing issues their son was experiencing while at the high school.

Last May, a similar lawsuit was filed against Madison Southern by the family of a then-sophomore, alleging their daughter had been subjected to cyberbullying when her personal social media accounts were bombarded with racial slurs, obscenities and other racial epithets by a large group of classmates at Madison Southern.

Well they have screenshots of students using racial slurs to harass other students, so I'm going to go ahead and say that the answer to the question posed in the thread title is a very clear "yes".

Mad South has themselves a a racism problem.
