December 30, 20205 yr If they sign Lawson, do not overspend. He is not a top tier pass rusher. He has an injury history. He is a good piece to have but he is not a piece you build a line around. Secodary is ok but if there is a shutdown CB at #6 pick, I am good going for it. The point being there are many needs to fill in the Bengals.

If you have a OT/ DE ranked 12th on your list of rankings, and you take him at 6 instead of any non-QB you have ahead of him you screwed it up. I’ll put it simply, if the Bengals pass on Kyle Pitts or Jamaar Chase and take a lineman that should be slotted for the middle first round, it will be a massive mistake. Trade back if you want, but never ever reach on a 1st round pick.

Yes, I am all for taking the player available and that could be a lineman, a linebacker, a cornerback, etc. The are many needs on the Bengals.

Barrett was consistently in the 70s as a pass rusher his first four years, but was only getting around 4 to 5 sacks a year in that time span. As a pass rusher Lawson has graded out at 75 or above every year, except one. This year he is above 80 as a pass rusher. I do think he is a better pass rusher than you may give him credit for. Which is also why he is also one of the top ones in terms of qb pressured this year. With the said the injury issue is a definite concern though, because this is his first full season playing all 16 games. So hopefully that does help keep his overall market value down some. Either way though, the Bengals pass rush has been non existent except for him. Which makes it hard to allow the only guy who was good at rushing the passer just leave. IMO he is more important to keep than William Jackson is, if they have to chose who to pay. The Bengals have at least some other decent corners, they have zero guys who can rush the passer besides Lawson.

Lawson is second only to TJ Watt in total amount of QB hits, and Lawson is also fifth in the whole NFL in total amount of QB pressures.
