Danville and Boyle County not meeting for the first time since 1965

Featured Replies

For the first time since 1965 Boyle County and Danville High will not meet on the football field.  Stinks !!!  Both are making up games previously cancelled on the date that they were scheduled to play.

Both are making up District games I should add.  Boyle vs. Bourbon and Danville vs. Washington Co.

2020 strikes again! Playing Danville would help Boyle’s RPI more than playing Bourbon County but I get it. District games come first.

Not much you can do in this case as the district games need to be played if at all possible.

I don't think that is true. I think beating Bourbon County helps Boyle's RPI more than beating Danville would. Beating a 4A team is better than beating a 2A team.

I was looking at it from an opponents win percentage and opponents opponents win percentage standpoint. Bourbon County’s opponents are currently 19-16 and Danville’s are 21-16. Bourbon is 1-4 while Danville is 3-2.

The two biggest factors in RPI are wins by your team and beating higher class teams. If a team loses, they get a zero for that game. If a team wins, they get to multiply the win by a class factor and the record of the team you just beat doesn't matter. Beating a 0-9 5A team is significantly better in RPI than beating a 9-0 2A team.

Look at the class factor used. The factor for beating a 6A team (even the worst team in 6A) is twice as good as beating a 1A team (even if it is the undefeated #1 team in 1A).

This really makes me sad.  What a strange, awkward season.
