The Backyard Brawl

Trap game alert: Russell is riding a wave of momentum following Week 4's overtime win against Simon Kenton. It was the program's biggest win in years and served notice to the rest of 3A that the Red Devils could be primed to make a run this year. Before looking too far ahead, Russell has to plant its feet firmly on the ground and focus on the Musketeers. This game is positioned between the aforementioned win over Simon Kenton and a colossal district tilt against Ashland on the schedule. Russell has to both come down from the emotional high of last week and not get caught looking ahead to the Tomcats. Throw in the fact that Greenup County is a big rival, and you have the recipe for a potential trap game.

Russell wasn't the only Greenup County school that needed more than 48 minutes to decide its Week 4 outcome. The Musketeers rebounded from a lopsided loss to Raceland in the 'Battle of US-23' to take down Montgomery County, 21-14. Like Russell, Greenup built a two score lead at halftime before their opposition came back to erase the deficit. The Musketeers scored first in OT before standing MoCo up at the goal line on 4th down.

Greenup won two in a row over Russell in 2017-2018, before the Devils torched the Musketeers 42-0 last year. Can Greenup get back on the winning side of this series, or will Russell take care of business at home?

If Russell can't get up for GC then they should just close up shop. Russell has a beat Greenup timer countdown board in their Locker Room and this is a district game to boot.

Devils stay undefeated.

As long as Russell doesn't come in over confident, this game should look a lot like last year's. The Devils have developed a lot of depth through four games. There are several new faces playing meaningful reps at nearly every position group and making plays every week to support a strong senior class. This week should provide another opportunity to continue building on that.

For Greenup, running back Quintan Farrow has been the man so far, but Russell does a great job stopping the run and the passing numbers for Greenup indicate an inability to stretch the field. This points toward a long night for the Musketeers.

Ethan Sharp had a setback per TJ pregame comments,  going to try and get him ready by the West Carter or Raceland or at least by playoffs.

Nathan Conley got hurt on the third or fourth play for Russell. Hasn't returned.

Connor Goodall just laid the wood to Quintan Farrow. Turnover on downs. Russell ball.

Conley is still out.

Hope it is nothing major.

He jogged off the field gingerly. Didn't look serious, but you never know.
