Corbin vs. South Laurel

Recommended Posts

I know South has a game in between but lets go ahead and get the talk started on this one. Both teams come in with 1 loss to good teams and have blown out two teams and gotten tough battles from regional opponents (Knox Central for South and Cawood for Corbin) for the other win. How do you all see this one shaking out?

I watched Corbin against Whitley County and South against Williamsburg. Granted both teams got to play everyone due to beating the socks off of those poor teams. South has the hype and is the big dog until proven otherwise but Corbin is nipping at their heels with Bell County for that top spot.

I personally don't believe in the this team beat that team by this much and that team beat this team by this much but here is some of that just for discussion.

Corbin beat Whitley while Crawford was only about 70%, Barley was sick and didnt play, and Cashen injured by 54 on the Colonels home floor.

A healthy South Laurel team beat a Whitley team with key players out from the wreck by 50 on South's home floor.

South should be favored and more than likely will win but I'm going to go with the Hounds on their home floor in this one by a score of 71-66.

Corbin struggled some with Bell Co.'s trapping and South is even bigger and more physical with their traps than the Bobcats. I'm sure the Hounds have been working on this area(you cannot really emulate their size & strength in practice though), but I just can't see them improving enough this early in the season to get the win.

South Laurel 72 Corbin 62

First off I'm a big South fan, and as good as they are I don't think they will walk in and take this one by no means. But with them coming off of the loss to GRC they will be focused. In the end I think the game will be decided by no more than 10 points. Hopefully South will be the one on top when the final buzzer sounds.

I think this is the game that everyone is looking forward to seeing. It has district and region implications and both teams are talanted and well coached.

I think it is too close to call but you have to go with experience, so I will pick South Laurel, although I think Corbin will upset them and get closer to the 1 seed in the district.

(Does that sound a little bit like John Kerry making a pick?)

Should be a good game. It is hard to bet against South due to their past successes. The 3 headed monster of Proffitt, Hammonds and Smith is very talented. If the Hounds can come out and start the game better than they did against Bell County then they have a chance. South is going to come into the game a 10 point or more favorite. Better get to the gym early to get a seat on Friday. Would not surprise me to see this game won on some free throws late by Proffitt or Hammonds. Those boys do a great job of drawing fouls on 3 point attempts. I watched them get three or four calls during the Knox Central game and also against Williamsburg. Maybe once their playing careers are over they will share their secret with future Cardinal players.

I think they may have taken some classes up at the Bennett Center that's helped them out in that area of the game...................and I for one hope they don't pass that on down the line.
