Sounds like Coach Burns may need to employ some "load management" with his top players. Pretty early in the season for dead legs. That said, Spencer did seem to "front load" its schedule. If they get through the December grind they'll have an easier back half.

 

North Oldham played a district game v. Trimble County the night before, but I guess they had an easy time with them and didn't wear anyone out.

 

I think as a Spencer County fan it is encouraging that they are playing even with these top teams with such a short bench. You are correct the second half of the schedule is quite a bit easier so excluding any big injuries they should be ready to go when it matters. Playing all three Oldham county schools in a span of 5 days with a short bench is very taxing. It doesn't get any easier for them with Bullitt East, Warren Central, Bowling Green right around the corner. I think they are getting a good idea where they stand. If they can win against Oldham tomorrow I think they would be feeling pretty good.

It seemed to me that they were spread out. When he goes to the basket more than likely they are going to call a foul.

He shot 8 over the first three quarters and 8 in the fourth quarter which was when he kind of took over and began aggressively making moves to the basket.

OC may not be as talented as Spencer, but they will probably be longer and deeper. Spencer will need to rest up and prepare for another close one Saturday.

 

Should be an interesting game, but I would think Spencer will be favored, dead legs or not. Oldham is an interesting team - like Spencer, they are junior-dominated. But unlike Spencer, Oldham's juniors are not varsity-tested. Whereas the Bears' juniors - particularly Hornback, Whitlock, and Conley - have been playing together on the varsity for a few years, the Oldham juniors were mostly JVers last season, albeit on a very good JV team.

 

Oldham's only returning starters are juniors Tyler Slone and Sam Campbell, and Campbell was a part-time starter last year (though he played a lot of varsity minutes). Point guard Steven Votaw - the lone starting senior - was a bit player last year, as was Deaton Oak. Xander Wagner-Rose, the Colonel center, almost never played varsity last season.

 

Spencer's significant advantage in experience will be a big test for Oldham.

OC's juniors have been tested - Slone started all of last year, Campbell's role increased throughout the year and obviously hit a clutch shot on a big stage at Henry County, and Oak started played a lot as an 8th grader at Carroll County before coming back to OC. Plus, the success of OC at the region tournament and Rupp Arena two years ago gave this junior class some exposure that Spencer hasn't benefited from.

 

I think this is a toss-up, especially after the tough week Spencer has endured thus far!
