Franklin-Simpson gaining momentum but can they keep it up?

Featured Replies

Franklin-Simpson has had phenomenal seasons over the past two seasons but have hit a snag to begin this season losing 4 straight. They have seemingly started rightening the ship but can they keep it up?

Past 3 years they've played for a state championship, they're in danger of that streak being broke but that's why they play the game.

Can Franklin-Simpson make it 4 straight title games?

No. Don’t see it. I think the Final 4 teams in 4A this year will be Boyle, Johnson Central, Louisville Central, & one of Madisonville/Logan/Hoptown.

The way the RPI is looking, if FS were to make it to the final four, they would probably have to go to Boyle County and that is a tall task this year. But there is a lot of football to be played before then. The biggest difference from the last two seasons for FS is that they have had several more injuries this year. They have really been fortunate the last couple years to have all their best players available, and that’s just not the case this time. Maybe some of them will be healthy by playoff time. One thing in their favor is that the upperclassmen have had a lot of playoff experience, and they almost always pull out the close games in the postseason.

According to the current RPI, most of the top RPI teams are in the east side of the state.

I agree with FS. They are champions and have a winners mentality. Sometimes that means more than current talent imo. FS kids are used to winning & expect nothing less. They will not be an easy out.

From 2016 to 2018 FS went 45-5. Two State Championships. And very few injuries.

This year have been the year of injuries especially on the offensive and defensive lines. Currently only one of five projected starters on the OL are seeing the field. An All State LB was injured early in the first quarter at Russell Co.

This was always going to be somewhat of a transition year for the Cats. Even so, starting the year with four straight losses was not expected. How things look these last three games will tell a lot. This team is gaining confidence and experience each time out but so have the last three regular season opponents. Warren Central, Warren East, and Glasgow.

I suggested early that the ceiling for this team would be reaching the Regional Championship game. Beyond that is cake and ice cream. Reaching that round three game will NOT be an easy road.

I honestly don’t see any way that FS doesn’t get to the 3rd round this year. I don’t have any faith in that district to threaten them.

The target is large.
