Cov Cath Question

Featured Replies

After watching Lex Cath tonight and seeing Cov Cath's BIG win against LaSalle I'm just wondering what the big issue was between CC and LexCath. I mean Beau Allen is a special talent but the LexCath defense gives up a lot of points. Was it just some missed assignments? Couple of people just have a bad game or something more? Just really impressed with the LaSalle victory. If they played again this year would CC win much bigger the second time?

I think the CovCath/LexCath as well as the CovCath/LaSalle game taught us that you should never underestimate your opponent. You'll get caught by surprise and will find yourself behind. That's also what happened to CovCath in the state championship last year imo. CovCath didn't bring their A game right out of the gate; trailed early and couldn't completely adjust in time to complete the comeback.

That was the 3rd game of the year, Cov Cath had a young secondary going into that game with little experience and going against a really good quarterback in Allen. Teams get better as the year goes on, players get experience, adjustments are made during the year. CovCath is obviously going to get better as the year goes on especially if Eviston is your coach.

Matchups and game plan. Lex Cath's offense and personnel are the model to beat Cov Cath.

Some things off the top of my head:

1) CovCath last played LexCath in 2017 and beat the Knights 48-2. The game wasn't as close as the score indicated. Probably a lack of focus on the Colonels part over all in this year's match up.

2) Give Allen credit. He was on target most of the night.

3) CovCath graduated their entire defensive backfield after 2018. Some growing pains there.

4) I thought the CovCath defensive schemes were not effective, leaving the flats open to take away the deep balls. Some of that may have had to do with the personnel.

5) This allowed the Knights to sustain a couple of long drives that kept the Colonels offense off the field.

The good news (for the Colonels, anyway) is people have been shuffled in the defensive backfield and CovCath does a much better job out in the flats now. If the game were played again who knows how it would turn out, but I would like CovCath's chances.
