4-1 Bardstown looks to get the district season started on the right track against Larue County this week. Bardstown comes in at 3-2 with their two losses being against good 3A programs Glasgow and Taylor County. This will be a big win for one of these programs. Who wins?

Should be a very competitive game with Bardstown coming out on top.

Bardstown 38

LaRue County 31

No way the score is that high. First, Larue does nothing but run the ball so the clock moves too much to get into shootouts. Second, I really think that people underestimate how tough the Tiger defense is with Floyd, Burton and Cleaver up front and those swarming linebackers.

Bardstown 28 Larue 7

I seen Larue in person at the Scottie Bowl and they simply do not pass I think Bardstown wins 27-7.

I was there as well.

This game is going to come down to how well the Tiger defensive ends, Sam Floyd, Frank Burton, and Jeffrey Yocum, and their noseguards, Maurice Williams and LaSteven Cleaver, fare against the giant Larue County offensive line, including standout 6'7" 280 pound offensive tackle Mark Goode, and 6'0" 280 pound guard Tucker Shelton.

If Larue gets to the 4th quarter ahead or within 6 points, they can pull it off... If Bardstown can be mistake free on offense in the first half, it’s over early. Which story will fold out... Coaching is even.... we shall see...

If the overall team speed was even close to being the same, then you’d be right.

Equal speed and skill comes down to line play.

Bardstown in that department is almost always equal or better than who they play.

This is a game of total opposite styles. Larue’s chance in this one is to make it 10 yard fights at a time.

Bardstown can score and score quick. Kickoff returns, punt returns, pick 6’s, broken plays that turn into long TD runs, 3 step pass concepts that are designed to go 6 yards then turn into 60 yard TD’s.

That’s how they score and there isn’t a thing wrong in that. There is a reason for the saying “speed kills”. They have it. They’ve always had it and always going to have it.

Larue on the other hand the last couple years have branded themselves on clock eating drives, bend but don’t break defense, onside kicks and they aren’t afraid to go for it on 4th and short from anywhere on the field because they know the longer they have the ball, the less that other team does & their offense is often times (especially against explosive teams) their best defense.

Their (and others like them) style of play gets crapped on a lot in this day and age if you aren’t in the gun and/or “balanced” then what are you doing? But 3 of their last four wins dating back to 2018 in the region finals vs Etown they have been down at the half by one-two TDs and they’ve came back to win all of them. I’m not saying that would be the case against Bardstown. But their team and program obviously believe in what they do.

Bardstown and their overall team speed (even up front) could run away with this one like they have in their four previous wins or this could end up being a fight to the very end. Neither would surprise me.

Larue’s biggest issue is their depth. They are starting (and have been) 10, sometimes all 11 guys both ways and those same guys are on all special teams.

Bardstown is up 21-0 at halftime.

Tigers scored on a long pass play to start the 2nd half and are up 29-0, my sources tell me. That’s 3TD passes for Brady Clark, all of 29 yards or more.

It’s now 35-0 after Bardstown’s DaTrail Wright breaks off a long TD run.

It’s a running clock at 42-0 as Bardstown gets its third rushing score of the game midway through the third quarter.
