6A Notebook: The Stage is Set

 

After Trinity defeated Waubonsie (IL) 60-6 the stage is now set for the game of the week and most likely regular season game of the year when the Shamrocks travel to Male to settle who is bona fide #1 in 6A. Both Trinity and Male are winning by an average margin of 31 points a game. The game within the game will be Male’s high powered offense with two future college D1 receivers Izayah Cummings (14 receptions, 231 yards, 5 touchdowns) and TE Briceson Rodgers (14 receptions, 246 yards, 2 touchdowns). Male’s rushing attack is also formidable with RB Jaylin Bross (232 yards, 3 touchdowns) and RB Quantrell Wright (337 yards, 2 touchdowns) along with QB maestro Elijah Parish (69% Completions, 611 yards, 8 touchdowns, 1 interception). Versus the best defense that has held some traditional out of state powers to an average of 8 points a game. Trinity’s defense has future college D1 LB Charlie Ely, LB Brandon Stearman, DB Blake Ruffin, and DE Tyler Roberson. These 4 are Juniors but will play in college in two years. The Trinity offense and Male defense will also be a high-powered matchup with Trinity averaging 40 points a game and Male holding opponents to 13 points a game. Trinity’s offense will be guided by QB Nathan McElroy (65% completions, 772 yards, 8 touchdowns, along with rushers RB Armon Tucker (384 yards, 7 touchdowns) and SE Brad West (369 yards, 3 touchdowns), and receivers WR Ryan Miller (18 receptions, 252 yards, 1 touchdown) TE Kaelan Racculia (16 receptions, 190 yards, 4 touchdowns). Male’s defense has been led by DT Elijah Manning (13 tackles), CB Nicholas Coates (12 tackles), LB Joe Kuerzi (12 tackles, and CB Cody Rakestraw (10 tackles). Male is also coming off an open week so have had extra time to prepare and rest. Trinity has had a tougher schedule and may have an advantage through playing tough competition week after week. What we know for certain is all eyes will be on this game.

 

This week Henderson County entered the top 10 at #10 after defeating 4A #7 Hopkinsville and being (4-0), and Simon Kenton dropped out with their 28-7 loss to 5A #4 Highlands. Let’s look at how the top 10 did this week and upcoming games.

 

1. Trinity did whatever they wanted in a 60-6 dismantling of Waubonsie (IL). They were led on offense by QB Nathan McElroy who completed 18 of 23 passes with 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. RB Brad West led the rushers with 89 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Wynton Johnson led the receivers with 7 catches for 68 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Ryan Milller also chipped in 5 catches for 100 yards. The defense turned in a stellar performance holding Waubonsie to -76 yards rushing and 95 yards passing. Next up for Trinity is at #2 Male.

 

2. Male was open this past week and will host #1 Trinity.

 

3. St. Xavier defense played well shutting out 4A #8 Central 23-0. The offense was limited by 3 second half turnovers including two that were punt receiving turnovers costing St. X to offensive possessions. QB Jack Sivori came in when QB Doug Bodhaine left with a minor injury and was completed 4 of 4 passes for 88 yards and 1 touchdown. QB Doug Bodhaine completed 8 of 18 passes for 59 yards and 0 touchdowns. RB Logan Davis led rushers with 111 yards on 20 attempts with 1 touchdown. WR Mehki Smith led the receivers with 7 receptions for 77 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense held Central to 151 yards with 73 rushing and 78 passing. Next up for St. Xavier is at 5A #6 Bowling Green and Coach Wallace will make his return to his old school from the visitor side of the field.

 

4. North Hardin had a stellar defensive performance shutting out Tates Creek 40-0. The offense was led by QB Manie Wimberly who completed 19 passes for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. RB LaVell Wright led rushers with 10 carries for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. He also chipped in 4 pass receptions for 59 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Camron Smith had 3 receptions for 96 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense held Tates Creek to 98 total yards including -10 passing and 108 rushing. Next up for North Hardin is 4A John Hardin at home.

 

5. Ballard outlasted 3A #1 Christian Academy of Louisville in overtime 40-37. Ballard was led on offense through a monster game by RB Jayden Farmer who rushed for 29 times with 260 yards and 4 touchdowns. QB Tristen Hawkins completed 9 passes for 135 yards and 1 touchdown with 1 interception. WR Chaunte Marrero led the receivers with 4 catches for 65 yards. The defense had a good effort holding CAL to 202 yards with 51 rushing and 151 passing, plus holding CAL in OT getting the win. Next up for Ballard is #9 Fern Creek at Cardinal Stadium.

 

6. Manual had a convincing win over a good Oldham County team 41-14. Most of the damage was done on the ground with 280 yards rushing with the bulk of it by 3 running backs. RB Ramont Townsend had 3 rushes for 81 yards and 1 touchdown, RB DeAaron Robinson had 7 rushes for 73 yards and 1 touchdown, and RB JuWuan Northington had 7 rushes for 62 yards and 1 touchdown. QB Zach Recktenwald had 5 completions for 92 yards and 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. WR Eli Blakey had 2 receptions for 63 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense held Oldham County to 14 points despite yielding 344 total yards. Manual is open this week.

 

7. Central Hardin outlasted 3A #6 Elizabethtown 57-40. The offense had a big game from QB Chase Elmore completing 15 of 18 pass attempts for 308 yards and 3 touchdowns. Central Hardin racked up 291 yards rushing with RB TreJean Sanders having 10 attempts with 118 yards and 1 touchdown. RB Deonco Wilkerson added 13 rushes for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. Deonco also had 4 receptions for 111 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Gavin George had 6 receptions for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense gave up 392 yards but was enough to get the win behind a strong offensive performance. Central Hardin is open this week.

 

8. Butler had an impressive win over #9 Fern Creek blanking them 26-0. The offense was led by QB Chaz Burks with 12 completions for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns. Burks also contributed 11 rushes for 57 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Antwone Shaw led receivers with 5 receptions for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Tyrell Watkins also contributed 4 receptions for 27 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense held Fern Creek to 105 total yards with 99 rushing and 12 passing. Next up for Butler is at 5A Doss.

 

9. Fern Creek was shut down by Butler 26-0. Butler didn’t have much going on offense but did muster 91 yards rushing by RB Terrance Mitchell with 42 yards and RB Anthony Teague for 33 yards. The defense surrendered 305 total yards with 110 on the ground and 195 through the air. Next up for Fern creek is #5 Ballard at Cardinal Stadium.

 

10. Henderson County picked up a good win over 4A #7 Hopkinsville 28-13. The offense was led by QB Sam Elliott completing 9 passes for 211 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Logan Green led the rushers with 71 yards on 19 attempts. RB Layton fletcher had 5 rushes for 17 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Edmund Brooks led the receivers with 5 receptions for 115 yards and 1 touchdown. The defense held Hopkinsville to 13 points despite surrendering 286 yards with 246 passing and 40 rushing. Next up for Henderson County is at 4A Anderson county.

Didn’t know Bodhaine left game because of an injury. Hope it’s nothing serious and was just a precautionary move, but getting Jack Savori game reps is a good thing.
