Raceland 17 Greenup County 14

Greenup played well, especially since they lost their running back early.

The Iron Bowl trophy stays in Raceland for another year.

Never would have thought Greenup would outrush Raceland by about 180 yards. Sammons went for over 100, nearly equaling his entire 2018 total on the ground. The Rams have badly outgained Greenup on the ground over the last several years, but they really missed that Adkins/Lacks duo from the last couple of years tonight. Not much commitment to the running game for the Rams.

I keep thinking back to those drops in the endzone right before the half for Greenup.

Congratulations to Raceland on the win.

A really fun game to watch this evening. Both of these teams have some work to do but also have a lot of upside to them if they get get the kinks worked out. Impressed with Greenup for making a game of it after all the dropped passes and the safety to end the first half. Not making excuses for them, but I did notice the fight they have in them, something they didn't have years ago. Honestly I thought Raceland would cruise in the second half. Both of these teams should have a good season.

I have heard it said that a team improves more from week one to week two. I sure hope that is right bc Raceland made one mistake after another tonight. Mental, physical and any other type that can be made. I will also say that I greatly underestimated GC. After their fine RB went out early with an injury, QB Sammons played a great game and kept his team close … too close for my orange and black blood. Several passes were dropped. That, combined with the Rams mistakes and it may had been a different story tonight. GC's O and D lines were very impressive along with their backfield. GC will have a .very good season.

Raceland may be good by district play but is jmo tonight showed their lack of game experience.. A lot of those kids on the O and D line along w / the RB's were back ups with the last two Ram teams.

Needless to say, the Rams will have to step it up next week or it will be a very embarrassing night in Ramblerville.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the GC kids that were injured. A RB (Farrow, i believe was the name) that appeared to be a knee along with the other ( I didn't get the name or number) that seemed to be a head or neck type of injury, the emt's worked with for quite a while before getting him in the ambulance.

The other GC player injured was Brayden Craycraft. Scott Grizzle seemed to think it might have been a concussion but wasn't sure.

I too am stunned that this one was as close as it was. Congrats on the win and good luck to both teams this season.
