Coach Cal has said repeatedly that this should be his best three point shooting team ever. It just hasnt been consistent yet.

I heard him say that a few days back as well. Couldn't believe but whatever he says goes....Right? LOL! In Cal we trust!

Statistically 2011 was the best season for Cal's teams shooting the 3 both in number of makes (243) and percentage (39.7%). This years team in 20 games has hit 124 threep point field goals at a rate of 36.2%. The current percentage is 4th best in the Cal era behind 2011, 2012 (38.0%), and 2016 (36.9%).

Thus far they are hitting an average of 6.2 threes per game which projected out (assuming 3 SEC tourney games and 3 NCAA tourney games) would give them 230 for the season which would be 3rd best in the Cal era.

While it's not impossible that this team may end up the best of Cal's teams shooting the three, especially if they continue to improve, that stats don't back up that statement at the present time.

To be fair 2 of the years you listed in front of them. Those teams made the final four and National Championship. So to truly compare them you need to say if this team makes the final four which would put them at 5 NCAA tourny games. That would would give them 242 threes, only one behind 2011 and ahead of 2012. Then if they made the championship like 2012. Then this years team would lead all Cals teams in terms of made three if they average 6.2 per game as you stated. So in terms of threes made a game they are right on pace, if they play the same amount of games as those years teams. Which this years team got off to such a bad start in terms of shooting percentage from 3. That the shooting percentage should also only continue to go up. So I think by the end of the year it definitely will be close.

I was just basing it on what I think they will do. After the last few years I'm not really sold on them getting to a final four just yet. Maybe that just a defense mechanism due to the fact that I allowed myself to believe that they would the last couple of years and I don't want to face the let down again.
